I was wondering has anyone had a similar experience...t his is a conversation my cousins and I had with an aunty of mine at a function...
Aunty: You, cousin #1, cousin #2 and cousin #3 should be happy that you guys have always been ugly.
Us: Why?
Aunty: Because as the years progress you have all remain the same, whereas the girls who blossom early we thought they were so pretty back than and now they are not as good looking as you guys...
WTF?...I did not know whether to be insulted or take it as a compliment.... hahaha...LOL

How did your aunt say it in Hmong? It may sound different. In the old days and even now for some OG...if they see a cute baby, they don't say "oh cas zoo nkauj/zoo nraug ntxim hlub ua luaj os!" If you compliment them like that, then the evil spirits will come and take him/her away because back then it seemed like only the "good" ones pass on. So...instead they would say "oh ua cas me-ab yuav tsw quav/phem quav ua luaj os..!" Saying this will disguise the baby and the demons/spirits will not seek him/her out. That's what my grandma told me.  |

^^^ but the thing is ... i have a suspicion the OP isnt a baby anymore.   to me what the aunt is saying is: pretty girls get old faster .... "ugly girls" dont. .. so gettin older, age will take a toll on pretty girls. ... this is sort of saying that the aunt believes old age will make everyone look ugly -- therfore if ur already ugly -- you cant get any uglier!!!! ..... now how mean n nasty is that?? ..... pretty stupid statement if u ask me!! this basically sounds like a dumb bitter opinion by some jaded old lady ... some ppl who have beauty dont necesarily get old or "ugly" fast like she thinks .... genes arent made all the same .... |

take it as a compliment...m any girls i grew up with were hot back in the days...not they aren't all that great looking anymore...and the ones that were once ugly blossomed to be beautiful woman now...  |

haha.. these old ladies........
a friend came to me.. and said.. "your mom came to me and said.. if anyone ask you why you're an old maid and not married yet.... respond by saying that as long as you're not using their money to take care of yourself... they should leave you alone" ....she was like.. "i didn't know i was an old maid already"
the cousins of this one lady's daughter doesn't hang out with them as much... so she asked us "what did you guys do? did you gets use the elephant medicine on them or something... that's why they hang out with you guys and not my daughters anymore?" like.. wtf lady..
