Anyone heard of this organization? It's supposedly based in Fresno, and what they're advocating is changes in the Hmong culture. The one issue that caught my attention was they're trying to 'legalize' same clan marriage. Other topics were no more marriage dowries, downsize the funerals because everyone knows no one besides the immediate family really cares or gets involved.
Hmmm, instead of legalizing same clan marriages, they should instead advocate making it a crime/taboo to marry your 1st or 2nd cousins from different clans.

i think a lot of their beliefs are merely compromises and adjustments to make things easier and more appealing, in terms of it being a widely accepted religion. sounds very appealing in many ways, but has no track record, and seems to be made up. more like a cult rather than a religion. no real and solid evidence to back up their claims for doing the things they do.

Never heard of the organization before. Interesting that they aren't forming the organization to promote and preserve Hmong culture but rather that they formed it to get rid of some of our traditions. Are they soon going to call themselves nonHmong, too?
The Hmong do not want to be viewed as a close-minded, intolerable group of people.
But we still must remember that we have to have certain traditions or else we are no longer a culture.
I am strongly against same-clan marriage. I do not see any need for it.

I agree. I see reasons in that.

Do you think this might be one of those like the Ban Vinai White House at Camp 3 back in the late 70's and early 80's?

What is the story behind that scenario?

I think their office is located across from my bank. I remember seeing big writings that read "Something-Something-Hmoob Ntxwv" on it.

marrying your 1st cousin is not taboo but marrying the same clan is..
