Someone should even start going after her parents too. I understand being rape in her situation because she refused at that time but come on...........6 kids together and sticking around for all these year and now just want to get out of the marriage because she found a "d" or something better out there that is using that against him. I hate everything about the Hmong culture but at the same time I learn to accept it in some way.
If it was not for the Hmong culture then we Hmong woman will just be like those Black and Mexican who is out there popping babies left and right and having different dad. At least with the Hmong culture....... .were nto abandon out on the street and the kids have a father whether legally married or not on paper but at least we get the respect and the chance to build a life for our kids and not make it tough for them in some way and being look upon as a slut, single mother, etc.
If this husband of her was fooling around with another mistress then I guess she could have just leave him and move on but to make this case look so bad so other Hmong woman out there will have the courage to come forward....... ......
why are we so focused on other race and people, shouldn't we focus on ourselves and work through our own issues prior to comparing to others. Not all blacks and mexicans are popping out babies, soo stereo-typical.

Why am I sensing so much anger toward the woman in this case? I think many of you missedd the point here. If you have followed this story from the beginning, you would have known that the guy brought this upon himself. All she wanted was a clean divorce from the guy. She didn't want to be in the relationship anymore. He brought up these issues and the law got him. He deserves to sit in jail. That shall give him enough time to think through his stupidity and hopefully wisen up and learn from his mistakes.

I wish MORE cases like this would come out!!! If the girls from Laos were smart...they would use this against the fu*cking old gizzers!
They are smart, they lie their way to be able to live in the US. Once their marriage and resident documents are finalized they usually leave their old gizzers.

The woman had legitimate reasons for remaining anonymous. And I applaud her for that. I've read through the hateful comments to this woman in here and cannot imagine the kind of treatment she has received from the Hmong clans/relatives in the communities.
There are many things that we can walk away with from this incident:
1.) It's not okay to rape your wife. If and when she says no, back off. 2.) If we live in someone else's land, we abide by their laws. 3.) Having sex with a minor is against the law. 4.) If your spouse no longer loves you and desire to live with you, let her go peacefully.

I agree with Wind and Devine Treasures... about the whole case and its beginning... I do want to point out something about the article itself though...
The judge is being very lenient in this case with the raping at age 12... and he even stress that this case is not an open invitation to go after Hmong marriages. Furthermore, I am sure that the wife is not talking about other wives coming forward to lock up their husbands for marrying them young... I am sure that she is talking about the domestic abuse that happens in our culture.
A few years ago, I wetnt to a wedding where the elders told the bride at the table that under no circumstances at all is she allowed to call the cops on her husband. That is crazy... teaching our daughters to be victims of abusers... not on my watch!!!!

What?! For as long as I could remember, (Hmong) women were taught to withstand all sorts of abuse. "Don't run home, don't turn back to us," were words taught to us in an early age about marriage. Families aren't supportive at all.

Here my two cent!
Thaying lor’s case have been the spot light in the Hmong communities in the United States of America; Older Hmong man are in fear that if this ladies get away with this, more Hmong women in the future will do the same thing to their husband too. But remember ladies; do not go around trying to lock up your husband for no good reasons because at the end, you who’s are going to be lock-up. Thaying lor’s case has pros and cons for us Hmong people in America to learn but there are unsure questions of how they got the answer in this case.
For example:
1. How do they really know she 12 year old at the time she got married; there is no evidence. It’s like what some else post “most parents lie about age or don’t know because no records was kept.” Don’t tell me the judge took her word for it? It’s like he say she say! Now that wrong. 2. How did the judge really know she was rape? That what she saying but that her opinion it’s not facts, no evidence.
3. THIS is my BIGGEST PROBLEM. People please!!!!! WE (HMONG MAN) DO NOT Buy our WIFE!! Get that to your head! “When she was 12 year old, she was sold to Thaying Lor” wtf! Go learn the culture before you write!
We (Hmong Man) do not want to pay that amount of money to the parents either! There better used of the money. But a good (Hmong man) will follow the tradition wedding BECAUSE ITS TO PAY RESPECT TO THE WOMEN SIDE OF THE FAMILIES TO THE MEN SIDE OF THE FAMILIES.
We Hmong man can be bad guys and not pay, will that solve this issue of saying ….”hmong men buy their women”
4. Back to the case; all this happens ever since 1991 when they were in America, this mean all rules and law apply to Thaying Lor.

I can see why Thaying Lor lost because he forgot or did not care about her age number on paper. Anyway, the judge should of put her parents away with thaying lor due to the fact that they let their daughter age 12 years old marry Thaying Lor at the time. By just puting Thaying Lor away only isn't fair. It was also her parents fault that this ended like this.

I wouldn't put the whole blame on her husband. If her parents accepted the 3,000 dowry then surely her parents are at fault for this to happen. They knew she was underage but accepted the offer. This is no justice in my eyes

This is how Mormon end up living in Utah. They use strict laws to move traditional hmong men away from a rich state into a poor state. Who knows, traditinal hmong men might end up living in Alaska and isolated states such as; Idaho, Wyoming, Maine, and etc.
