Mee's slogan was unique and memorable because her name was also a pun.

So I looked at some of their websites and experiences, and I think it will ultimately boil down to Chai and Foung.

So, R, who you votin' for?   Wink  You're not even eligible thus far, but who you rootin' for?   Cheesy

You can't just go into a precint for a day.  Don't you have to establish some kind of residency first?  That means you need to start forwarding mails (no porn mags, ok?) and make it look like you "live" there.

R: for free, why not? All you have to do is cut the lawn so I won't be getting anymore assessment/improvement bills from the city.  Now is your chance to be part of history. Take it!

knuppel2 knuppel2 knuppel2 knuppel2

Well, if Chai Lee matters most for the East Siders, then he'll get my vote.  But he must convince me of that.

Let's not put the person ahead of the idea.  Everyone matters, thus their votes are their voices.  However, not everyone has great ideas or passion to make the east side great.  Someone mentioned the concept of persuasion - let's not be so fast as to be persuaded because that person is likeable.  Let's challenge and redefine why a candidate should run for office; what contributions or actions can the candidate bring to the legislation floor considering East Siders and the greater community?  All of the candidate had me convinced that they will run for state senator (thus the appear on the ballot) but only one can truly deliver.

So to say, no person can convince another without that person's positive preconceived notion to be convinced by the person doing the convincing.

so i went to the TakeAction Endorsement & Screening this weekend and I felt like the Her guy was not as good as I thought he would be...honestly he sounds very knowledgable speaking in hmong when i hear him on the hmong radio but when he speaks english, it's different...he doesn't have that same kind of virbe.....the yang guy was not my favorite as well....so out of all the canidates that came out to speak, there were three that i really like, Jim Mcgown, Avi ...( the indian guy) , and Lor..... they all have a stronger vision and i felt like they have to ability to make a difference on the east side...... for the others there were some positives but it seems like they have a specific issue that they are only passionate about....for example, the Lee guy was talking more about education, but what about other issues?

i feel like canidates' websites are totally different from hearing them in real life...it does make a difference in who you should vote for....

Wowsers, thanks for the report.

Good to know of one person's impressions on the candidates. I'm sure others have different views on them. I think the English-speaking-only candidates seemed more convincing just because they had clear American accents. No? What were the issues?

there were 4 main issues... 1) health care 2) marriage equality   3) Education  4) I can't remember maybe public safety or something about our budget system?

but then we had our own Q&A for other issues that we were concerned about

Well not only do they have a clear American vision, i think that they would be better at understanding all sides regardless of color... the ones i like were very knowledgable of the system (politics) .... vocabarly does play an important role too...if you don't understand what the residents are asking...it'll be hard to give them an anwser...

Why is marriage equality an issue? Was it about recognizing Hmong marriage in MN or was it about whether women should be allowed to divorce (which is not an issue in mainstream MN)?

I can see that you are saying the native English speakers seemed more eloquent on the stand, partly because they could articulate the words better. Normal for people who don't have to deal with a second language in the community. But what were your own Q/A's? Did they answer them to your satisfaction?

I was tied up with two big events on Saturday, so I didn't get to the conference you were at.

Marriage equality such as GLBT...their stand on that....just so you know these are just not issues with the hmong community, but for all members of TakeAction and anyone living in district 67...there were other people of color there as well.... I did not get a chance to ask any questions because each canidates were given 4 mins for the Q&A due to limited time and there were some that took the whole 4 mins to ask the question....

The questions were more based on TakeAction's views since the canidate would get their endorsement.

I see.  Grin

So, did you know right away whom TakeAction endorsed? Or is that yet to come? If it's yet to come, when do we know?

Yes, we voted after the canidates spoke....Vang Lor did get the endorsement at a 83%... but i did feel like one of the other canidates did deserve it too.

Good to know. Thanks.

I have seen pastors running for public office. And remember Sen. Al Franken's past job: a comedian. Grin

Paul Wellstone was a college professor (political science though).

The three professions who have become politicians the most have been: lawy, business, and farm/agriculture!

But everyone is entitled to become a politician. So the banjo player has that right...but people boo'ed him? That's not nice.

Here's an article in Politics in MN.

wow!...so many negativity.... although he did have alot of supporters to be there....other canidates had the same opportunity to do it as well....there were a couple of the canidates who went on bragging about who their other endorsers were and did not even once ask the group to vote for them for TakeAction's endorsement... .it's understandable ..... when i walked in...i already knew who was gonna win....

But when you think about it, I'm glad that they endorsed him because he shared the same views as TakeAction.... he was passiontate about his complishments with TakeActions hoping to use this as a guiding tool to be heard at the capitol..... the other canidates probably don't even know what TakeAction is....either way, it's all done and over with....it's all politics....
