General statement: Half the given sets in a sample are always below average, true or false?

Mathematically prove it to be true and/or false.

Half the world's people are below average, true or false?

This statement is False.
More than half are below average.

General statement: Half the given sets in a sample are always below average, true or false?

Mathematically prove it to be true and/or false.

This statement is also False.

Example: a set of numbers {1, 4, 100, 100, 100}
the average is 61 and only 2 of the 5 numbers are less than the average. (40%)

  That's false.  Consider the the simple case of a set of 1 element only.

Correct, although when it comes to people it depends on what one defines as average.

Sources? The title was simply an attention grabber.

S.A.M. already proved the statement false.

The only time half the set of samples is below average is in an example like this: 2 2 2 10 10 10, average is 6 and half in this sample are below average.

But because the general statement was based on an "always" assumption it was proven false by S.A.M.
