Sucker Bet
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:22:33 PM »
A local hustler at a bar in Las Vegas decided to take some money from the tourist sitting next to him. "See that couple over there?" he asked the guy. "They're married to each other, and their names are Vern and Shirley. I'll bet your $10 that Shirley has taken 2 trips to Las Vegas with her husband Vern, but Vern has only taken 1 trip to Las Vegas with his wife Shirley." The man thought this was impossible and took the bet. How did the hustler walk out of the bar with the tourist's sawbuck?

Okay that's a typo. Should be YOU.
Vern was his friend and Vern used to live in Vegas till he got married.

LOL.. Vern is her husband. For this case, lets say they're married and living together.

They both went to vegas, and on the way, the car broke down before they got to Vegas, so the husband Vern stayed with the car, the wife Shirley hitched a ride, or crossed the boarder to Vegas to call a tow truck (first trip).  Two truck responded, picked her up and took her to car with husband and fixed car or tow it to Vegas (first trip for Vern, while it is second trip for Shirley).  The end.  Do I get YOUR $10?  ;D

What does it mean "to take a trip"?

Haha... good logic and it works but lets assume that they didn't drive, they took the plan to Vegas.

What does it mean "to take a trip"?

A trip in this case is a vacation. To make it clear, lets assumed Vern and Shirley flew to Vegas for a week long vacation.

Haha.. come on now. It's not that hard.

When you guys give up, I'll share the answer.  O0

You are changing the scenerio.  This is how it went; Shirley had a previous husband name Vern 1, who she is now divorced to and they went to Vegas, which is one trip each Shirley and Vern 1.  She married another husband who's name also happened to be Vern too; Vern 2.   They take a trip to Vegas; two trips for Shirley (with the two Vern husbands; Vern 1 and Vern 2), while it is only one trip for Vern 2.

If this is not the right answer, then the only scenerio is that their plane crashed right at the border; Vern's body tumble right into Vegas, while Shirley's body tumbles into Vegas, bounced back to Cali across the border, then ricocheted back to Vegas again.....LOL.

Hm...Let's assume one or two more things: 1. that there is only one Vern we are talking about and 2. that there is only one Shirley we are talking about.

OK. My thinking is this: On the first trip together, Vern did not return home; Shirley returned alone. So she came back on a second trip to join Vern again. Vern was in Vegas with Shirley but he had taken just one trip there!  Meanwhile, Shirley had done two--both times she was with him!;D ;D

See, you are saying we should have assumed that Shirley was a two-timer! ;D ;D

Hm...if there were two different Verns for the answer, then we are left with the thought that there might have also been two different Shirleys.

Man, what are people doing in Vegas to their relationships these days! ;D ;D ;D ;D :2funny:
