Of course we are no longer living in the 1920s through the 1960s in America but you would have to be incredibly stupid and naive, or in complete denial, if you don't think that they play a part in your failure or success as a minority.

But everybody you deal with plays a part in your failure or success.  Doesn't matter if they're white or not.

people who use race as an excuse would think that. imo, success doesn't discriminate against anyone but it does make it harder if you're a minority or woman. once you change your mindset, you'll realize how much power you have to control your future.

There is a big difference between playing the race card as the blacks do and coming up with hundreds of excuses and blaming whites for their failure, which is just plain pathetic and sad (even though by reading their history I can understand why) and having the intelligence to see that discrimination against non-whites today are still very much alive and well even though not to the extent of the 1960s and it's often subtle.

yes, whites tend to be more prevalent in positions of higher power but that's because there's more of them and they've been here longer. my point is there's more to it than whitey not promoting you just because you're hmong. there's other more pressing factors to consider - like education, motivation, work ethic, and how you market yourself...tha t determines if you succeed or fail.

btw i'm not naive to think discrimination doesn't happen anymore. it's been proven scientifically that people are inherently bias towards their own race and would prefer to help their own kind. it would be the same way if mexicans ran the majority of businesses- they would hire mostly mexicans. i do notice how we all root for the teams representing our own country during the world cup soccer.

The difference is whites take it to a whole different level as history has shown. If you have time or make time, read a most important book called "Trouble in Mind: Black Southerners in the Age of Jim Crow" by Leon F. Litwack.

This book even though it's consider a history and African-American studies book is one of the most important book I've ever read in my life. The insights in not just race relations, but in human nature and everything from capitalism to religion is just overwhelming.

I used to hate it and cursed at the top of my lung in my car when black people would walk so slowly in busy streets in front of me. I just felt like running over them. This book helps me to understand why many of them are like that.

My current job, my boss is an older white lady with very conservative views, but she chose me over 48 other candidates, mostly white.  How can I say I was discriminated against?

I like that kind of attitude. You are sure to make friends with many whites in high places and will go far in life with hard work and determination. I think you must be very familiar with Larry Elder's work. It's not often I come in contact with a Hmong Larry Elder.

Lets see...my first company was a large cap company all Executive positions and senior management were held by white people...

Next company was a start up - all white again

Next company is a mid cap - 90% white...

Lets check my friends work places...yup.. .majority are white.


Weird that in the bay area its the case?

Hmm...I wonder why.  Probably just fate.
