I love you showing your place in Japan.  The rooms look all small & cozy.  So it must have 3 bedrooms?  Whats the square footage?  What is the tatami room used for?  Do you mind sharing how the bathroom looks like?

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your travels!

Yes it's got 3 bedroom.  It's about 1,400 sq ft. The bathroom and shower is separated as you can see in the picture.  The Japanese like to shower standing and have a bath tub so the shower is all tile.  You can take a shower outside of the bath tub and it'll be fine since there's a drain on the outside.  I use the tatami room for tea as some of my Japanese friends like to drink tea when they come over.  Per acient time it is said, "Tatami were originally a luxury item for the nobility. During the Heian period, when the shinden-zukuri architectural style of aristocratic residences was consummated, the flooring of shinden-zukuri palatial rooms were mainly wooden, and tatami were only used as seating for the highest aristocrats."

Ahhh very interesting to see how homes are like in other countries.  The bathroom is very interesting with the shower on the outside of the tub.  They must like to be all clean before sitting in the tub for a soak.  Thanks for sharing the history of the tatami room.  Also do most japanese homes have one?  Or only some?  Kind of like in the US where homes have a separate living room and dining room.
