One of these days I am going to learn how to live off the grid.
It's fun. You could start off by joining the guys when they go hunting. It's like a big long camping trip, except that you get to shoot stuff.
But if you can survive a week in the woods, you'll have a good idea of how it feels to live "off the grid". If you really want to rough it, then camp with no electricity or running water. That'll really test your survival skills in a true setting. Then learn how to navigate properly in the woods (obviously have someone who knows how to get in and out of the woods with you), learn how to track animals or stalk them (because you'll need them if you're going to survive out there for an extended period of time), how to make a fire without a lighter or matches, and how to keep yourself warm at nights. Most of the younger generation takes for granted all of the amenities of the city life that they'll freak out if they were put in the woods for even a day and told to find their way out. It really makes you appreciate how our parents and ancestors did it back in the homeland.
