Respect is earned, not given. Don't respect your elders just because they're older, some of them are ignorant and bigoted as hell. Come with an open heart, empathy, and listen to understand without judgment, and you'll get respect in return. Come at me with your bullshit and I'll put your ass in place. I don't care who you are.  I don't care about your stature in the community. I don't care how much money you make or your degrees. Say something stupid to me and I'll make your ass feel stupid. Don't waste my time with your lectures because I've got important shit to do. I know what needs to get done and I do it, and I've did it, and if I haven't done it, there's a damn good reason why. Dumb ass relatives are dumb.
