Vang Pao to get a new home in Fresno??

OK so I participated in a meeting this past weekend and the meeting was about the Vang clan wanting to purchase a home in Fresno for Gen. Vang Pao. The reason behind this was that he is in his elderly age and commuting back and forth poses to be a danger for him. The guy that's supposed to represent all the Hmongs in the US sent out a statement to collect $100 from each family to cash a home for the elderly GVP. I've seen the house they wanted to purchase for the price of $350k.

After hearing this, I have a few questions floating in my head. First and foremost, Why does he need a house in Fresno of all the places? What kind of work does he do in Fresno to require him to travel so often that would pose to be a danger for him? Is this another scheme to scam the Hmong people especially the Vang clan as each family is instructed to fork out $100 for this cause? What will we get in return for this gesture? Does GVP have any say in this or is this something purely concocted by the so called "nom"?

Anyone heard of this? I've looked around on their website www.vanginternational.com but found nothing of the saying.

If Vang Pao wants to relocate to Fresno, his family should take care of that matter.  And why does he need to cash off a $350k house when one of his children can get a mortgage for that?

Exactly my point! why does the people have to fork that out for him if it was really a true cause? If GVP or his family can't afford it, then why not sell his other home(s) and cash the one in fresno?

I heard about it and even got the letter and saw a pic of the house.. A lot of people love GVP and will donate a lot.. I would donate if I had extra cash laying around.

You guys are so late.  This plan was started this spring.  His cronies had a meeting about it.  During a recent visit  and a discussion with one of his family members, it is confirmed that they are looking for a house for VP in Fresno. 

The plan is making it's way around the country.  My family members from the East Coast are getting notices to solicit.

Here's the thing, whoever is collecting the money has minimal oversight.  Whatever he collects and what he actually gives to VP might be two different amount. 

Bottom line is, this is a personal family matter between the general and his kins.  Not for the public or for you and I to carry on our shoulder.  And if the Vang families feel so strongly about this cause, each of the Vang families can donate.  They have enough households to make it work.
