Find the defective robotic part?
« on: November 14, 2010, 09:08:14 PM »
You are in charge of a high tech robotic assembly.  There are six stations that are in charge of the different name parts A through Z.  Each station is soley responsible for those named parts.  On the morning of testing the new production line, one of the robot did not boot properly.  Since you are in charge, you asked the six stations what they did during the installation, and all insisted they installed the parts as spedified.  After looking at the part's login chart from the diagnostic computer, you found the following installation below.  Name which is the defective part and which stations are at fault?

1) Station 1: install parts g,h,f,w, and e; which are head components of the robot.
2) Station 2: install parts p,n,m,x, and o; which are arms components.
3) Station 3: install parts c,a,d, and b; toro components.
4) Station 4: install parts i,k,j, z, and l; leg componets.
5) Station 5: install parts r,s,q, and t; robotic hard drive.
6) Station 6; install parts v, u, and w; electrical components.

6) Station 6; install parts v, u, and w; electrical components.

At Fault: Station 1 and Station 6
Part: w
Reason: 1. w is both an electrical part, and a part of the head of the robot.  1.a Since it is the case that w is a head component, it can be deduced that it must then be installed during the installation of the head (at the same time).  1.b Similarly since w is also used in the electrical component of the robot, then during this install, both Station 1 and Station 6 must work correctly else the power fails.

From the log: it shows Station 1 installed first, and Station 6 last, the following can be concluded--

Since w is the only component that requires 2 stations, and requires them to do an install at the same time, or at least after each other, and also since the two Stations did not install the same component w at the same time, or at nowhere near each other, this can only mean that both Station 1 and Station 9 are at fault, and the component mis-installed is w.

Bingo!  Wow, dreamlogic.... you nailed it right on.  Congrads!  Seems like these are too easy for you....hmmm, going to have to think of some tougher ones.  Great job!

I think the robot didn't work because it was missing component Y, therefore, you need to determine which station was responsible for component Y and blame them for not installing that component.  The problems specifically mentioned that the components were from A through Z therefore, it can not work properly unless the robot had a Y in it as well.  None of the stations bothered to install component Y.

Hmmmmm.....yeah, I forgot to put Y in there and you caught it...great thinking, and that would surely caused a malfunction.  Y was suppose to be part of station 6 in this case.   O0
