2 stabbed at Hmong New Year celebrationLast update: November 28, 2010 - 7:58 AMFights broke out at Saturday evening's Hmong New Year's celebration, leaving two teenagers stabbed and prompting police to temporarily shut the gates at St. Paul's RiverCentre.
A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the stabbings was being held on suspicion of aggravated assault, police said.
A 17-year-old boy was in stable condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and a 16-year-old boy suffered minor injuries.
Police said the stabbings, which happened at about 5:30 p.m., may be gang-related.
That fight occurred at the same time that several other fights broke out inside the RiverCentre and in the hallways. Police shut the gates, directing several hundred people out of the center and broke up the fights.
Five adults and five juveniles were cited for disorderly conduct.
The Hmong New Year events went on as planned following the 30-minute lockdown.
This is the 34th year of Hmong New Year's celebrations in Minnesota. Events continue on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
