Question regarding sleeping pills?
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:21:35 AM »
...does anybody take it quiet frequently.

Is it pretty ok or safe to take it frequently, if you're having a hard time falling asleep?

I take it from time to time but from what the bottle says, you SHOULDN'T be taking them frequently. If you are, you should be consulting a doctor of your situation.

And when I say time to time I mean like 2-3 times in like 3-6 month periods. Sometimes you just get those periods in your life where falling asleep gets hard.

i used to take them a couple years ago. the bottle said to take only two (they come in pairs) pills at a time. well, one time i took six pills. my body acted weird and heavy. luckily i didn't overdosed myself.  :) that was a hard time in my life, so that's why i took that many sleeping pills.

Sleeping pills should not be taken at all, period. As some people may say, it is addictive but that is untrue, but it can mutate into a tolerated drug. this meaning, your body will become immune to its chemicals, and it will soon have no affect on you. And due to the chemicals used, a tolerance can develop quite quickly. Similar tolerances are common with antibiotics.

Most doctors will not prescribe sleeping pills, even if its a last resort. a doctor may prescribe a supply of only 3 or 4 pills.

It is recommended, by doctors, that a person who i suffering from insomnia (difficult to sleep) should change their evening patterns, also referred to as Sleep Hygiene. This usually requires a patient to change their usual habits; like exercise, diet, eating before sleeping, change time of going to bed, change rooms etc etc...

overall, it is not recommended to take sleeping pills...good luck

If u look at the active ing list, most list melatonin as the active ing... So, outta curiosity, i went to the vitamine section, n lo n bhold, there it was! I recently spoke with my mom's dr n they said that if u take just the melatonin pill fr the vitamine section... Which has no added other chemis... Then its pretty safe... That was good as my mom has a weak heart, but also has trouble falling or staying asleep... Esp since my dad passed away...

i work nights and if i work 4 or more night consecutively i take two advil pm.  so that'll be like, 2 every other week.  sometimes i just have good sleep anyways then i don't take it.  altho i don't recommend it to people who take a lot of pills.  i don't take anything at all.  even when i have headaches or body aches...i just sleep and stick thru it.   2 advil pm will make you sleep 8 hours, maybe not straight but you'll get 8 hours in there.   i never take them cosecutively (day after day) tho.  never know if you could get addicted.

since i've worked nights (year and half) i've only taken a total of 4 advil pm.  i do try to get sleep without them as much as possible.

oh yea and i've heard of melantonin being more natural kind of "drug" to help sleep.   i've been thinking about looking for them.
