plus if your own relatives don't follow you, no other Hmong people will.  That's how it is in our culture.

you must be talking about Lis Ceeb and DYD?  ;D

just using them guys as examples.

Whether you like or dislike GVP doesn't change the fact that people still showed up to respect the man at his funeral and people still praise and accept him for who he is. You cannot change the fact he helped Hmong established themselves here in America and what he did was bigger than any of our feelings. So if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything. Respect the poor man and let him rest in peace.

If you carry hate and animosity in life you will never be able to leave this world peacefully so let's do him one last favor and let him rest! I would believe that's why he died because of heart broken and a heavy heart. So I don't believe GVP went peacefully, and for a man such as him to carry such burdens in life this long he is truly strong. So if you can't compare to that you should shut up right now.

imo, you don't have to like the guy in order to respect him.

And for those who jump so eagerly to dislike him without justification, then that's just plain ignorance.

I can't say that i loved the guy, but i do respect him as a person and wish him well in his afterlife.

May I say it again, GVP is no Saint, therefore many other people will disagree with him or not like him.  If he was as good of person, he would never treat women like material things or objects by marrying so many of them.  He has like 7 to 8 wives, that's no Saint or somebody with a total good heart.

But we do owed him many thanks and gratitudes for the heroric deeds he did for us/hmongs in the past during the war.

the saint argument again...neithe r are you and neither am  I, we're not saints ourselves ;D I see you bring this up about him so many time about him--and I just wonder why, maybe a jealousy issue towards the man? that he was able to love all his wives EQUALLY? Umms....we believe he did that so he could unite ALL the hmong clans, and hmong families offered their daughters to him too....and now that he's gone, there are many families who are going back and tracing their roots and many connections lead back to GVP. He is the FATHER of the Hmong people.

sure he was no saint, but NOBODY will be able to do what GVP has done.

i think Touby Lyfoung and the Royal Lao's has already sided with the US/French and they recruited GVP, but GVP did play one of the important role.

Here is one single thing every Hmong should respect GVP.  If not for GVP we would probably be siding with the commies, and all of us would not be in America.  I'm glad everyday that GVP sided with the US/French.  That is why I am here.  Without that, I'll be in a 3rd world country with no future.  That's it folks...ANYTHI NG else, that's entirely up to you.  Even if GVP did not have this master plan laid out as some claim, which I believe is highly likely, without GVP actions in the field as a fearless warrior general, we would not have the support of so many government officials.  That's to be respected.

Should we love GVP?  Up to you man.  GVP beyond what I've said has no impact and no bearing on my life because I didn't receive a scholarship from GVP for college.  I received one from the city and from the state.  So I love my country because they helped me become a better person.  Did my uncles, and cousins?  No.  But they impacted the why I thought so I love them for that.  GVP?  Nada...So just respect the man.  He's a man that has done things that none of us will have the opportunity to do.  It was by sheer luck or ill luck of fate that he has such accomplishment s and sorrow.  To think you are a General and feel so low that you hold no government power or status and you are just a mere citizen.  Thinking about it hurst me and I'm not GVP.  In fact my Great Uncle use to talk like that because he held a gov't official position and he would always talk about how ducked up it is here because he has no power and woman has more power than he does.  Sad but true at times because it is not he who gets the welfare check, it is the woman.

I'm sure some of the things he did were not so good and fair to everyone.  I'm sure a lot of people were hurt and disappointed in him but over all, I believe he did the best he can and did what he think is good for the majority of hmong people.   I'm sure there are favors played or givens but that is how things are done in the old days and most of the time even now day.  That just the way hmong people work. It is sad at time but I think we should appreciate what GVP had done for the hmong people by working with the
Americans and resulted in bringing most of us to this country where we have the opportunity to learn and understand the world in a bigger picture and mayber our children will change and make things better  and/or more fair for everyone in the future.   I believe Hmong people are still very uneducated and does not understand a lot of things.  We are still very narrow minded and need to learn to see beyond ourselves, our family, our clan and our people.  When we can understand and see this then we will appreciate one another and make life better for our people.

because some people in here thinks he's a saint or something.  I do respect him for what he's done, but i'm reminding everyone he's just a normal human being like us with lust, temptation, etc ...in case anyone doesn't get it.

No regret yes, he is just a normal person with big ideas, dreams, and love for his people. But when you made that comment that fugly quoted you on, it just sounded like you paid attention more to VP's choice of lifestyle in polygamy and wanted to remind people so they can use that against him or something when judging his character, rather than focus on his good qualities and remember him for what he stood for. Care to share what's on your resume of civil service?

Some people may not like him for his polygamy practice, and some may not like him for some of the things he had supposely done (whether it was true or not) that they felt was corruption.  But because he is GVP, and now that he's dead, lets just move on and remember him as GVP. O0

I disagree with the "just a normal human being like us" argument because none of us will have what it takes to be a leader like he was.  Until you can unite so many people to follow you and convince governments to support you, you will never be like him.

Yes he has great leadership skill, he has a gift but he's still a human being like anyone of us with flaws and imperfection, that's why some people have disagreement about him...what's so hard to understand and accept about that?  I'm not hating here, just telling it like it is. O0
