dlambert@sacbee.compreese@sacbee.comA stand-off between police and an armed man in south Sacramento ended at 8:50 p.m. after the man surrendered peacefully.
Police arrested Syu Yang, 23, of Minnesota, said Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong.
Yang barricaded himself in a house on the 6500 block of Montpelier Way, near Calvine Road, at 6:30 p.m. to evade arrest after pointing a gun at a police officer, according to authorities.
Four teenage girls were in the home initially, but he released two. He continued to hold two girls hostage for more than two hours until the stand-off ended. All the girls were uninjured.
Yang had apparently arrived in Sacramento today to visit one of the teenage girls, who he met online.
Leong said that officers were called to the house because of a disturbance between two people. The officers were told one was armed.
When they arrived they found a man with a gun.
"He pointed at the officer and retreated back into the house," Leong said.
Police had evacuated nearby residents.
