How do they get elected into office and who gets to elect them?  Are they self appointed?

Each clan elects one for their clan name.

They even have President of Clan Vang, VP of clan said, Treasurer of clan, Representative of Clan Said of regeion, and etc... for each clan.  The organization chart is similar to that of any organization out there.  So once you have your President, there are some who are elected to the 18 xeem.  Does not necessarily have to be the President who is on the board but it could be one of his people.  With all that said too, when it comes down to it, the OG still runs the show because the 35-50 year old still consult with the 60-80 year old.  Traditional clan ranking such as ELDER still applies but at times negatable but that would negate both leader authority in the future so people avoid such drama.

18xeem can be considered the Hmong Senate of all Hmong in that region.

Well. I don't remember ever being asked to vote for anyone nor do I recall receiving any papers to vote.  Also, I heard a rumor that some Lee's weren't happy about their Lee representative because he was self appointed and they think there are others who can do better.  Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Did your clan call you to go vote for your leader?

They just recently passed that "rule" that women can now refund their husbands.  So, ladies, if you are not happy with your marriage, move to MN.   >:D

Did you vote every year in the presidential election?  If you don't vote you don't count and it happens regardless if you vote or not.  Want to make change...GO VOTE, GET INVOLVED.

Its that way with most clans. here's an example. A Her man in his early thirties went to the election process meeting with his Vang bro-in-law. since there are no Her's there the bro-in-law says, hey you are the one to represent the Her Klan. and so there u have it.... shameful. 18 clans can kiss my ass.

yep, just look at the vang rep with 18xeeb.  before the NY it was a guy, but he didn't agree with them starting another NY and abstained from voting or joining their meetings on the subject.  needless to say, there's now a girl rep for vangs in 18xeeb.  similar story for at least 5 other clan reps who didn't agree with starting another NY.

this is a continuing pattern with 18xeeb and was what occured back when we last had 2 NYs.  if a rep doesn't agree with the "ruling" party at the time, they are replaced by others who do follow the party line.  awesome way to elect new leaders for the next generation!!

Usually the Hmong Community. If you aren't a member, your chances go out the window. Personally, I'm not sure if I can picture someone formally appointing themselves because the rest of the clans may just consider them a joke or rebel.
