Actually, I think that the majority of the Hmongs won't even care about this issue, it's mostly the older generation that are still trying to secure a position in the community as leaders now that GVP is gone.

For the rest of us, we'll just go on with our every day Hmong American life and think nothing of it.  Let's just hope there's a New Year's celebration for when our kid's generation.

The problem is, at some point, our younger generation must start to care and feed our ideas to the system to try to better our community....w ashing away some of the bad things about the older generation.  Of course, the cycle begins when our generation is classified as "OG"..hah!  However, the way the family (or Chai Vang) spoke out is very divisive though.....or at least the way the article reads.

How did this issue get on the news? Did 18 xeem complain about it? Or the family?

+1 Amen O0

Now's the time to step up and take on that role. When will we, the 'younger' generation finally step in and take this into our own hands? If we're waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect moment will NEVER come.

And that's the truth.

IDK but I'd hate to be Hmong right now.

Why's that?  ???

Is it because they're Hmong and the Hmong culture in general will lose face to the American public? Why not stand your ground, instead of hiding behind the shadows of our elder? Why must we wait for them to pass in order for us (the youth) to step up? Don't you think it'll be to late then? Oh wait... is it too late now?

  ::) ???

*Again don't take this offensively.  ;)

Do think some white people hate to be white because of Dahmer, Manson, MeVeigh?

instead of uniting the hmong, the "vang" family is saying 'you're not welcome'.

after gvp, the family is done and so are the others that use gvp's name to influece and run the hmong.

ruam tshaj ruam.

It's so damn ridiculous that Hmong is divided 'cause of such small issues, issues that shouldn't even be a problem.

If I take stand, I'll just be the conflict. These people just need to make their own peace.

If they consider themselves and community leaders, Hmong leaders, step up.

Chai Vang said his father did not officially recognize the group as a "credible organization," and out of respect for the family it was not extended an invitation to the funeral.

Yang of the council said the general had not given his recognition, but "the Hmong community recognized the 18 Clan Council ... their intent to lead Hmong to the next generation."

Wow.  Strong words.  I heard that when the General first got sick, the 18 xeem council leaders were anxious to take over and he didn't approve of their power hungry tactics.  That was all rumors, but I guess, based on the article, the rumors aren't that far fetched.

That's what I was trying to get at.  The current OG's have the old mindset, always trying to become leaders.  But don't build the foundation to support their ideals.  They're too quick to separate from each other and start their own organization so they can run it how they want to, instead of joining arms with everyone else to build up on one main goal: The advancement of the Hmong community.

People who even think about leading is just power hungry.

A leader isn't a leader until the people make him one.
