Is General Vang Pao...
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:32:44 PM »
More famous now that he's dead or when he's alive?

From my analytical point of view, he's much more famous now.  When he's alive, not many care about him, especially the younger generations. They always portrayed their parent to those economic immigrants who migrate to America to benefit themselves.  Every Fresno New Year, Vang Pao is there to deliver a speech and it goes to deaf ears...especia lly these younger generations.  They whine and complain, "who is this old man have to do with our life?"

Now I guess they know, or hopefully they realized the central figures for our Hmong people is gone.  Now it's time, for us to either adapt to American society or assimilate.

Now it's the time for us to start bettering ourselves, so that Vang Pao's sacrifice and our parent's sacrifice didn't go in vein.

If you listen carefully to his last public speech, he knew he's day is coming, yet he still show confidence and charisma; the true value of a leader.

Remember this line clearly, "Dhau kuv lawm, dej kub hlab nej, lig lawm".  He's making a very VALID point here.

Most people are more famous after they have passed away. Kurt Cobain, King of Pop, etc.

You make good points A_New_Beginnin g.  O0

Those closest to him or have worked with him, has heard GVP's personal comments in conversations regarding his leadership. He doesn't toot his own horn, doesn't give himself a pat on his own back or speak above anybody at all. GVP is very humble and meek. My uncles and father have shared similar accounts that when VP talks about his leadership leading the hmong during the war and afterwards representing his hmong people in America, GVP said:  "Kuv coj nej sawvdaws...tia m si kuv coj zoo li niag ruam xwb...if anybody can teach me to be smart so I can help and lead...share your ideas with me"

You'll find all kinds of reactions and opinions from the hmong people. There will still be his loyalists, his followers and people, those who vam and hlub nws, and those who hate or doesn't care about him at all.

But the love and respect for him surely outnumbers the ones who hates him.

That's sad.  :'( I never resented my parents and I'm happy my parents are still alive and I live with them, sure they've nagged and lectured, and sometimes it can be overbearing and frustrating, but they are parents, they only mean well. Some people will only honor and miss their parents after they die? If anybody is fortunate enough to still have living parents, please do not take them for granted and spend as much time as you can with each other, and make amends with one another if you didn't get along with your parents. Or they'll be regrets.

You probably didn't have a good relationship with your father growing up then. If that's the case, someday when you have sons, make sure you just get involved in their lives and find time to enjoy father/son time. Life can be taken away at anytime, you just don't want to be full of regrets when it comes to family.

i think ppl become more famous once they're dead. it's their legacies that they left behind and it's after they're dead that ppl recognize the goods they did. just look at all the famous ppl in all areas of subjects today...they're all dead.
ex: martin luther king jr., michael jackson, mother teresa, ghandi, etc.
