Remember that we have no democratic system to elect a NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL leader.

All leaders in the community right now are local leaders.

If someone is to replace GVP as the NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL leader ... it's going to take something special.

Ask not what "Jesus" would do, but what GVP would do. You are not "Jewish" and the "Jewish God" does NOT exist. Christians started the wars in IndoChina, then they left you to die. It was GVP that finally gave you RIGHTS to be HUMAN.

apples do not just ripe overnight, same as leadership. chu is a great guy so all his sons but they have not done much for the hmong community for the past 35 years. we all love gvp, we respect his family but not as leader as gvp. the next hmong leader will no longer coming from that side of the family however, glad that chu is stepping up to be a leader for his family.

Right. VP wasn't the Hmong's leader by a government's authority--that authority fell of back in 1975 when VP was ousted from Laos already; but he was a leader all over because the Hmong respected him only.

I see...wait 'til we have another great challenge and then see who steps up to wrestle it down. Isn't that how most heroes in the movies become heroes? Hence, leaders?

Break it all down, we are still very tribal. Comare us with the natives of Africa and other indigenious people all over the world. We can not simply elect a leader, he has to earn that position. Vang Pao was never elected, nor did any authority made him. He pulled himself up by the straps of his boot. To be a leader, you have to first lead yourself.

Kind of ironic isn't it that he even state in his last speech for the Hmong people to help him watch over his family. But what happens instead? People are already bashing his family already. We should stand up for his family because he stood up for all our families. They know that they can't fill thier father's shoes, but atleast they are willing to try. We, should also try to as well, try to live up to the dream he set out for us and see if one day we can reach it.

Thank you for your acknowledgment . It is true that GVP was never a leader to some. It's kind of funny because when he was alive a lot of people saying things like "we don't have a leader, we don't have a king." But funny enough, as soon as he dies some of these same people start calling him "our beloved king." There is something about Hmong people and hopping onto a band wagon, don't you agree?

He may be the leader of his family/clan, but not of the hmong people as a whole..  To proclaim such a title w/o election is pretty much a definiation of a "dictatorship"..    Keeping it in the family also further support's the dictatorship definition..  In order to become the next LEGITIMATE leader of the hmong people as a whole, I think an official ballot must be submitted by a HMONG FAMILY, if not each individual and be verified when counted in order to be valid.  But if there's no adgenda or purpose to be the leader, except just to be titled "LEADER OF THE HMONG", then what's the point??  It's not like ALL the HMONG PEOPLE live in one CONDENSED location and our voice and opinions would matter in the grander scope of society..  We're all scattered throughout the country and world, with little clusters here and there, that what happens in the hmong community on the other side of the country say in Freso doesn't even affect us locally i rural Wisconsin..
