Humans are a social being. We like to get together in groups. We are clanish. There is nothing wrong with that. Our most important clan is the family. We are currently stuck at this level. We need to extend the group to the Hmong community level. We can not destroy the family group. We can only build on it. Every people have a clan system.
It seems we have people who are ashame of having a Hmong name. Why do you want to break your family up? I'm sure that is not the issue. They are afraid because they are from the small clans and feel threaten by the bigger clans. I think this is the real reason behind the attack on the system. Some don't even want to tell you their last name these days. When I asked he just say Hmong. I didn't realize how serious the fear was until this debate.
This problem can be resolve just like the 13 colonist did in the founding of America. We can make the representation equal.
