Uncle Sam seems to know.  A 2001 government study said a person's life is worth $6 million.

What suprised me the most is how powerful OIRA is.  It basically  makes make all the laws and nobidy elected them.

Who volunteers to be shot at?  That is what infantry men do.  During the cold war, the life exectancy of an infantry man is measured in minutes.  US troops on the South Korea border are expected to last only hours when war breaks out.  Death is a lottery no one wants to win but these people volunteered because it means their love ones can sleep without worry at night.  When you go on patrol, you know your chance of dying is worse than working in a factory.  In essence they gave their life to the lottery of death.

I'm a lazy reader so no I didn't read the article. But why do you have to give up your life for that money? What if there are ways that you can help lives and not have to give up your life to work like a dog or for the government and still be able to be worth more than 6+ million.

Maybe if I was rich enough, I can buy a personal slave and give that money to their family.  This way they don't have to die or anything.  Just service my every need.

Yes there is always a way to earn more than $6 million.  The average person just don't earn that much.  

The article mentioned nothing dying.  It is a cost analysis of government actions.  If a law cost more than $6 million to save a person's llife then the law should not be implement.   In essence the government will not spend more than $6 million on you.

Joining does not mean you die.  Dying is a risk you take, but not 100% certain.  Giving your life for 6mil means 100%.  People who build bridges, build sky scrapers, and nuclear plants.  They know the risks too, but that's not the same as just dying for the 6mil.

Working on sky scrapers is dangerous, but its not like running into a fire fight.  For every time you run into it, your luck just got a little worse.  Every time you do it a part of you died.  Even if you survived, your life is never the same.  You may never be normal again.  They are walking sombies.  It is worse than death.
