Funny Hmong Words

Ever wonder or laugh at some Hmong words like ugly or dab tuag (monster dead) and lizard/ reptile or nab qa dev (snake frog dog)? Especially diction like "pov" when used like this: my mom had to go to the store one time and I had to be at a cousin's house so she drove me there and said, "Kuv mas li xa koj mus pov nram lawv tsev." I made fun of the statement and she thought it was funny too. Please do appropriately share yours.

ohhh... once when i was younger... i was at a hmong funeral and talking to a traditional elder about how a hmong funeral is run and the titles of the staff... (he was schooling me...)

so we got to the cooks titles and he told me that theres a "mother doing vegetables" title for the female chef and a "father cutting meat" title for the male chef... and i asked him why didnt they just call the males title "father doing meat?"... as to aline with the females title too, plus the males are doing more than just cutting the meat...

then he said... well, because "father doing meat" wouldnt sound too good...

"niam ua zaub"... "mother doing vegetables"...
"txiv hlais nqaij"... "father cutting meat"...

"txiv ua nqaij"... "father doing meat"...

fyi... "doing/ua" also means "fawking/sex/etc"... and "meat/nqaij" also means "girl/vagina/etc"... in slang of course...

I guess it's just an emphasis of "very" and "so very" which then makes "no heev", "sov heev", and so on optional or another way of saying the same thing in a calmer tone in comparison to No NOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO and Sov SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Vvvvvvvvvvvvvv vvvv. I think if either is used, they have a different effect. That's only what I think. ;D

That's right. Forgot about that word. I always thought that was weird too. How did we come up with these words? Lol.

I've read a linguistic explanation of this somewhere but it's been so long I don't remember.

On topic, my funny hmong word is "lipstick" ...or maybe I just have a dirty mind.
