This is unethical, not unless the person was on death row for crimes and murders he's done, and his organs can still be used to save those five patients?
This whole question really made me think about that one scene in Dark Knight where there were two ships. One was full of prisoners and the other full with just every day “law abiding” citizens who went about with their lives. Both ships were told that they had a certain amount of time to push the button to set off the explosive on the other ship before time is up. If a decision was not reached, both ships would explode. And of course the “good people” started saying criminals, murders, etc. should be the ones to go. I won’t ruin what happened for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie (go watch it…it’s a thumbs up kinda movie).
In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what kind of person an individual is. Just because someone has done great wrong in society or what not doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to live like us. Who’s to say we are moral if we choose to get rid of them?
To answer the question, no I would not kill one person to save 5 people. Doesn’t matter what reasons are used to justify it. As that quote goes, “to the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world”….it gets at what I’m saying. Think about how our parents still love us despite all the shit we’ve put them through. Do you think they’ll give us up for 5 strangers to call their sons and daughters? I think not.
No I wouldn't. And this question is too easy as I imagine most people would answer no as well.
Let's make it interesting though. Would you kill that stranger if one of the patient was a love one (your spouse, child, sibling)?
No I would not. As the elders say, “peb twb nqa tau peb daim ntawv los nrog peb…” Why twist anyone’s fate for our selfishness? Besides, can you live for the rest of your life knowing you took another’s life just so someone you love could be with you longer? I know I wouldn’t.
