Hmong American Sportsmen Club hosts Small Game Sight-in before opener
Giving back to the community

September 11th, 2011

Sheboygan, WI – The Hmong American Sportsmen Club (HASC) hosted their first annual free Small Game Sight-in this past Sunday for the surrounding Hmong community before the big opening day of small game this coming Saturday. HASC teamed up with the Sheboygan Rifle and Pistol Club (SRPC) and their range officers to make the event possible, which brought out over 30 Hmong small game hunters to come sight-in their small caliber rifles.

“By offering this free sight-in to the Hmong community we’ve offered these small game hunters an opportunity to test out their rifles in a safe and controlled environment; giving them the confidence to go out and harvest a few squirrels knowing their rifles are accurate. In previous year, these hunters had no other choice but to go to the woods to do their sight-in. It’s great to know we can give back to the Hmong community for which our club represents,” said Addison Lee, Club President of the Hmong American Sportsmen Club.

As one of the range officers of SRPC Reed Van Ness was at the sight-in to help out and give his expert advice.

“It’s a great thing the Hmong American Sportsmen Club is doing here for the Hmong community. Our club looks forward to working with them again in the near future,” said Reed Van Ness, President of the Sheboygan Rifle & Pistol Club.

good job bro O0

i know all the hmongs in your community appreciated that

**but now that their rifles are gonna be as accurate as it has ever been, whats gonna happen to the squirrel population?**

i mean we hmongs are accurate with decent sighted in rifles, killing alot of them, now that the rifles are truly sighted-in from a bench whats the chance of missing a squirrel even if it was headshots

dime size groupings means the extinction of squirrels, j/k im just sayin we hmongs are good but we will be even better with a properly sighted in rifle

Squirrels are wiped not because of our accuracies; it's because we simply hunt too much and too many.

Good observation.

Honestly the squirrel population will replenish itself, they're a self sustaining species and breed 2-4 times a year with each litter around 4-8 yearlings. Just gotta manage the land yourself if we don't want to drive the squirrel to extinction. Afterall, if we don't who else will? The DNR views squirrels similiar to rabbits.

I personally know a few spots that I know I can go out and come back with my limit (5/day here in WI) but choose not to simply because the areas only holds a dozen squirrels or so. It's up to you to step up and manage the squirrels in your area if you'd like future generations of Hmong hunters to hunt there as well. Atleast that's how I view it.

By the way, the rifle maybe accurate but it's still up to the shooter to be steady and take a lethal shot. Hope this answers your question.  O0

i was just being sarcastic because im like you, more americanized and sight in from a benchrest
my pops and uncles still like to do the hillside sight-ins so their rifles are not as accurate but somehow they still get them squirrels left and right

hahah sad but true sad but true.

Hmongs will over harvest and shoot every squirrel in sight!

Maybe you should run a clinic on not over harvesting animals and poaching etc etc.
