Three injured in head-on crash

Three people were injured Friday evening in a head-on car crash in the town of Birnamwood.

According to a news release from the Shawano County Sheriff's Department, a Mercury Cougar struck a Toyota minivan on Highway N at 5:49 p.m.

Shane Bernarde, 34, of Birnamwood was driving the Cougar and was airlifted from the scene. The driver of the minivan, 59-year-old Pao Xiong of Schofield, and his 52-year-old male passenger were transported to a local hospital.

Initial reports indicated that Bernarde swerved to avoid a piece of debris that fell off a third vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The men's conditions were not available Friday night.
