Poj Koob Yawm Ntxwd
« on: October 11, 2011, 10:06:05 PM »
I guess it's a new Hmong religion  ??? or new to me at least.   This video is long, but listen to it when you get a chance.  I only listened/watched the first 20 or so mins of it.

I find this part of the news clip interesting...(starting at about 19:35, but especially 20:00 - 20:20)  I don't know if I agree w/ her 100%, but she does shed some light onto the topic.

This new Hmong belief is quite interesting.  I've been following it for a while now, and I have to say that there are quite a few things I totally agree with but there are still a few things I question.

No, it's not a mixture of Christianity and Hmong Tradition.  According to what I understand, it's Hmong religion simplified.  Sawv daws los koom teev hawm rau ib lub tsev ib qho chaw ib tug tswv ntuj xwb.  When you convert, koj tej dab qhuas xwm kab ces lawv tuaj muab yaws mus pov tseg tag li lawm.  Koj mus rau tom lawv lub tsev teev hawm, ces koj mus hu koj niam koj txiv, koj pog koj yawg, tus koj yuav hwm txog kom lawv los nrhiav noj nrhiav haus ces los rau lawv lub thaj loj tov xwb.  There's much more to explain but laj laj type no li lawm.

Hais txog ntawm qhov kuv tsis tshua tau taub pes tsawg mas yog  hais txog ntawm kab ploj kev tuag.  One of their beliefs is that lawv nyiam yooj yooj yim xwb, tsis nyiam qhov muaj kev sib cais es koj muaj koj pab koj pawg, kuv muaj kuv pab kuv pawg, koj muaj koj dab koj qhua kuv muaj muaj kuv dab kuv qhua es koj tug tsis tau kuv tsev kuv tuag tsis tau koj tsev, tabsis mas ua cas lawv yuav coj nruj ua luaj li thiab.  Yog lawv mus ntseeg es teev hawm  Poj Koob Yawm Ntxwv lawm, lawv kuj coj nruj kawg li thiab.  Lawv cais txiav tu nrho cov neeg tseem coj kev cai qub, ua  cais nkaus lawv es hais tias yog lawv tseem coj kev cai qub ces yuav mus tuag tsis tau rau lawv vaj lawv tsev.  Lawv twb tsis muaj dabhuas hauv Vaj hauv tsev lawm es lwm tus neeg tuaj tuag hauv lawv tsev es yuav muaj dabtsi txhaum thiab?  Confusing right?  I still can't figure that out.

I commend these people.  I've always wonder how will Hmong traditions/religon survive if nobody is willing to commit to practicing it formally.  We have all these unstandard methods.  Without a standardize method, and a learning system, our system will cease to exists by the super culture (Mekas).

This is different but I great leap forward.  I've always criticize traditional Hmong that if you truly believe and long your traditions and religon then put your money where your mouth is.  Until now I've yet to see it.  Awesome!

seems like a progressive movement for the traditional hmong religion  ::)

we have been debating this ever since college days in the 90s, and it may be something that eventually the hmong religion will get to.

if you look at most religions of the world, the lao/thai has their temples, the christians have their churches, etc... for our hmong people, each family has their own shrine inside their home called "xwm kab" and even two brothers do not do it the same way too.

if traditional hmong religion could be moved to something like this, then we will only need to have the "experts" perform the rituals. As existing, every clan or family has to have their own experts for the rituals even though 95% of the rituals are the same regardless of which hmong clan or family you are from.

another angle to this would be that the members could contribute money to their church, or whatever they want to call this worship place, just like most other religions.

but there are still much obstacles to encouter. hmong has too much pride to want to change, until the clan leaders adopted this, it will be years to go, as well as the younger generations are willing to adopt this practice.

if you think about it, this would taking advantage of the concept on the separation of "church and state" in america  O0

donate to build your religion, isn't time for hmong people to do that?

how should I say this, the interviewee undermined it all, his quick speech was golden; he practically incited the psalms and chants in an improvisationa l manner similar to how a Shaman would've done it. now, I'm even wiser now from his philosophies and practitions at a mere sample rate -- his fluency is groundbreaking; I bet he knows several other languages as well as rich knowledge in his field. however, I couldn't finish the watching the whole video; but I will come back to it when need so.

The trick to mastering all the tricks and deciphering all the riddles within many great philosophies is... dissipate the thoughts, not be of solid; and evaporate the existence of the self, not be of water; but move about from one standpoint, not that of air.

Atleast this group is being kind as to taking care of the women who has been abused by their husband and can't go back to the husband's family.  This group supports any women who's been tortured.  I say to them.  Thanks for opening your doors.
