gold necklaces
« on: November 07, 2011, 03:57:51 PM »
I just read the news where they arrested some hmong lady for stealing gold necklaces from kids at the hmong marketplaces in St. Paul.

I was just wondering what the significances of the necklaces are and why hmong parents always seem to buy gold necklaces for their kids?

No, not the truth. BS big time using gold.

However, there is some truth to the "xauv" - the original belief was because back in the hundreds who knows when if you're Hmong and you don't have the 'xauv' around your neck and you walk outside of your village the CHinese will chop your head off.  Hence, keep your xauv keep your head - old saying.  It is just over the centuries that it's a cultural thing....reall y you don't want to be known as a people being enslaves to the emperor.  I personally hate it so I don't wear it.
