Ethics and Morality
« on: December 19, 2011, 06:23:36 PM »
You can be ethical and yet be in a moral peril.  Why?  Debate the meaning of the two and if they are the same or not the same and if same why and not the same why?

Ethics and morality are dependent on cultures, religions and society.

In a true sense of energy as sorcery, there is no such a thing. However, if one follows and live by the energy flows- one can be considered as being a great moral and ethical person. For me to go into details in this Hmong forum is a waste of my time and yours.

Let's say your client hires you and tells you where he killed and dumped the body of that young beautiful girl everyone is looking for who had gone missing days ago.  Ethically your bounded to keep your mouth close but then morally your a wreck because there's nothing you can do to help out the poor girl's family.

Doesn't this make you a criminal?

yeah, you're right... you should keep out, since no one here is up to your standard (in your opinion) and no one here cares about your babbling...

Give some scenarios like Bob JD where you felt ethically right but morally wrong.  :)

Not if you're a lawyer. You're bounded by an ethical code to keep your mouth shut and make sure you ensure your client gets a fair trial. That's what Ally McBeal and Boston Legal taught me.

Morals-beliefs, thoughts, personal/individual
Ethics-actions, collective

That's how I would simplify things.

You are only a criminal if you help your client commit the crime.

No unless you took some positive action to help him, I.e. Hide the gun or give him money to flee.

Other than that you are not legally obligated to tell the police anything.  That's where your moral dilemma comes in.

I've already forgotten western ethics when I last learned about it in school. This could be a question of to-be or not-to-be, or of vices and virtue or such as one needs to break the rules/laws in order to sustain life; lies vs truths when trying not to hurt someone; one can still be an ethical debater but doesn't necessarily mean the person is morally practical... just some things off the top of my head.

The trick to mastering all the tricks and deciphering all the riddles within many great philosophies is... dissipate the thoughts, not be of solid; and evaporate the existence of the self, not be of water; but move about from one standpoint, not that of air.
