YES OR NO?
« on: January 09, 2012, 04:10:24 PM »
I don't know much about the culture but I've heard that as christian, you can't bring or take foods to your passed loved ones. Is that true or not? I've done it so many times.. but I was advised by our Pastor that we can not do this.

Does it say in the Bible that you cannot?  Or are you listening to your pastor's OPINION?

The bible doesn't state so but I don't want to offend anyone as well.

Are you learning the Bible or learning from your pastor?

That is one question that most Hmong Christians have yet to answer.

1.  The best atheist answer that I can give you is this.

- Continue to do what you think is right due to the fact that it is not written.  If there is no consequences then such doing is a ok to do.  If there is a god, he/she/it will try to stop or prevent you from doing thus.

2.  Your pastor prevents so there is a god?

Food offering is generally practiced in old traditions/beliefs;  it is done so, in the belief that our loved ones who has passed is causing illnesses, comes in the form of bad dreams and/or other signs that frightens the living..to show that they are hungry and suffering.  Upon offering food and burning paper, one is relieved of the symptons...Whe n one is still practicing such acts..it is consider teev dab and for one to teev ntuj one cannot teev dab.

you may want to ask the pastor, what would be more appropriate to bring your loved ones...

We don't do this.  We don't believe in the "after-life" like how it is with Shaminism.  After death, they are in heaven.  There is no need to feed.

That's what I thought to and I've heard like two stories.. so I'm a bit confused. We are christian and I believe that we do not feed the dead. I wasn't planning to bring him food but just things to set it on his headstone.

Flowers is good enough.  Really no use for wasting food.
