Four-day Funeral Observance Planned for Sheboygan Shooting Victim

Funeral arrangements are set for the young man shot outside a Walmart in Sheboygan.

The family of 20-year-old Pheng Lee says the four-day funeral, which is a typical Hmong custom, starts next Friday, January 20.

According to police, Lee and his three friends got into a fight with a stranger outside the store early Sunday morning, who then fired a semi-automatic, killing Lee and wounding another man, before driving off.

Friends say Lee's close friend, Chenglong Moua, remains in critical condition at a Milwaukee hospital.


Police arrested 21-year-old Kou Yang a short time after the shooting.

He's in the county jail on a probation hold, and police are recommending first-degree intentional homicide and three attempted homicide charges to the district attorney's office.

Police are checking into whether there were any gang ties, but Lee's family insists he was a good man and not involved with gangs.

very sad. he probably was not a gang. but maybe one of his friend was. wrong time wrong place. so young too.

I didn't think it was typical for Hmong people to hold such a extravagant event (4 days) for somebody so young. It's usually 1 day on the weekday.

I didn't think it was typical for Hmong people to hold such a extravagant event (4 days) for somebody so young. It's usually 1 day on the weekday.

6 to 7 days in Laos.  7 to 10 days for older people.

RIP.  Doesn't the 18 council have some rule about having the person who killed them help with the funeral??

Is this how one sees another now in days.  We are not born killers, but naturally good people for the most part.  This guy who killed the Lee guy should be in Prison, not jail for a long time.  Let's say 25 to life for taking a life. Lesson be learn to all people out there.  When you're in a situation with crazy people, just get out of it and don't stay for the fight. Unforturnately, this young lee guy died in the cross fired.  Hope he will be taken care of by his ancestor.  Much love to his families.

A four day funeral service here in Sheboygan is pretty typical for ANY member of the Hmong community, regardless of religion.

Honestly, why do we waste our hard earned money with these gangs??  They looked for trouble, and they  died.  just dig a hole and throw him in.  End of story.
