i knw a couple who been dating for 6 years, even lived together, and he ran off and got married.

if you know that dating that person wont lead to something serious, then do them a favor and let them go. tops-no more than 3 months.

a year?  that's like, too much commitment already. 

Lol. A year is not too long of commitment. I think it actually takes a good year to get to know a person's good and bad side, not including the long distance relationships. Although if you already seem to dislike the person before a year, it's better to let it be, but then again, you may never know what goods hide within that person. People tend to put on a mask sometimes and shield their true identity from others. I'd say give it at least 6 months, if not a year.

I see...If that case then I don't know because in my generation where I and your parents came from
people rarely or never live together before they legally marry to one another. And I know that in the United States,
some of them do.....

When I was younger, I could date someone for a few years and not think much about marriage.  As I got older, I was more careful in who I dated.  I wasn't going to date someone if I didn't see much of a future with us and if he wasn't going in the same direction as me I'll end the relationship.

But how would you know it will not go anywhere if you never give that person the chance to begin with? Surely you can't judge him by looking at him?

I guess the ones that call it quit wants more out of this relation and the other one was just happy being in the relationship. To me if both of them are happy, why not just continue dating. Why does it have to be anything else if both of them are happy?
