A four-vehicle crash on Wisconsin Highway 21 west of Necedah on Sunday when a Minnesota man driving this Pontiac Gran Prix attempted to pass several other vehicles, according to the report of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department.A four-vehicle crash on Wisconsin Highway 21 west of Necedah early Sunday afternoon sent six people to area hospitals.
According to the report of the Juneau County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened at about 1:15 p.m. in the town of Cutler, one mile west of the intersection of Highway 21 and Juneau County Highway M.
According to witnesses, a car driven west on Highway 21 by Dewayne Khaoone, 20, of St. Paul, Minn., attempted to pass several other vehicles. As he attempted to pass, Khaoone lost control of his car and struck a small sport utility vehicle driven east on the highway by Roxroy Barrett, 38, of Onalaska.
Khaoone's car then hit another eastbound car, which had been following Barrett's SUV, driven by Zoe Browne, 24, of Stevens Point.
A fourth driver, Diana Springer, 49, of La Crosse, who was following Browne's vehicle in an SUV, drove into a ditch in order to avoid crashing into other vehicles.
Khaoone and four passengers were transported for medical care with serious injuries. The passengers were Thiva Yang, 19, of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; Jesse Yang, 20, of Brooklyn Center; Jupiter Xiong Ying, 19, of Minneapolis; and Beizing Vue, 19, of Waconia, Minn. All the injuries were listed as serious.
Browne also was transported with serious injuries. Some victims had to be extricated from vehicles. One or more victims were taken to Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, according to the Sheriff's Department report. Barrett and Springer were not injured, according to the report.
Khaoone was ticketed for reckless driving and four other moving violations. His fines totaled nearly $1,300.
