Zero, a Scotts Valley-based company, is recalling 450 motorcycles because of a problem with the brake light switch.

The company reports the switch at the front brake lever may not activate when a moderate amount of front braking occurs.

That means road users behind the bike will not know that it is slowing down and could lead to a crash and potential injury or death to the rider.

The models recalled are model year 2011-12 S, XU and DS motorcycles, as well as 2011 MXD and XD models, plus 2012 X motorcycles.

Zero will notify owners and dealers will make the fix free of charge. The recall is to begin around July 16.

For information, call Zero at 831-438-3500.

Learn more about this and other recalls from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.
