Why don't you answer for each senario,  O0 (I wanna know too,  ;))

And I am getting ahead a bit, but whatever answers (correctly, that is of course) is said, they directly apply to the "Txiv Dab Laug" as well,  O0 .

Okay... So this is going to be a long ride, so strap yourselves in.

Txiv Dlaab and Muam Phauj/ Nyaaj are basically holding the same jobs, but their roles are determined based on the deceased.

Roles:  1) Qaij kaus 2) Na tsum (press the table)

Situations:  1) Man dies.  In this situation, the Muam nyaaj is the top dog because it's her brother who died.  Thus, she is person required to come see that her brother has a proper funeral with all the burial rites and the clothes etc...  The txiv dlaab is there to be the witness.  In addition, the main role for the txiv dlaab is to ensure that his sister (if still living) will receive her proper burial rites when she passes on.  More importantly, he is there to find out who will take care of his sister, since her husband has died.  IT IS AT THIS POINT, where tug nam tij will be txis (bequeathed) to the younger brother.    Lastly, the txiv dlaab will attend whether his sister is alive or not.

2)  Women dies.  The txiv dlaab is the top dog here.  The muam nyaaj is there to witness.  However, Moob moospheeb do not have muam nyaaj.  She is no longer has a place within lub saam tsum.

Wow.  Wasn't too bad.  This is the main point.  I'll repost if people have more questions.

Which situation is qaij kaus and which is the other kind?

That was already answered, but, to further clarify - ALL the muam phauj and/or txiv dab laug - they ALL "qaij kaus", meaning "tuaj nyuj" or "kills a cow" depending on who the deceased is.

As "luckyvang" already explained:

1) Muam Phauj "qaij kaus" if her brother is the one who passed away.  Here, Txiv Dab Laug "tsis qaij kaus" but is on-hand as witness, mediator, and interrogator.

2)  Txiv Dab Laug "qaij kaus" if his sister is the one who passed away.  Here, Muam Phauj "tsis qaij kaus" but is on-hand as witness, mediator, and interrogator.

3)  Cuas Nyab/Ntxhais and Xov Txiv Dab/Dab Laug "qaij kaus" too, but that's off topic -  ;)  (fyi - they father-in-law and the daughter-in-laws respectively)

Everyone is is basically "the other kind" - "mus nrog hlub, ua hauv qhua tab, tsis qaij kaus" - though a lot of folks "tuaj nyuj pab zaub" because everyone wants to out do each other nowadays (competition) --  :idiot2: .
