Getting rid of house odors

Haven't tried this yet, but thought I share...

If you are worried due to foul odors in your house this tip suits you very well

Put two caps full of vanilla extract in a coffee cup, then place it in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 Minutes. Within ten minutes the whole house smells like Heaven. It's actually a common Realtor trick.

Don't let them bake too long or it will burn

I think the previous owner didn't cook much.  Our house smells great when we bought it.  They use freshener.  Lol...we cook so much and our fresheners don't work at work.

Candles also work well.  :)

Thanks for the tip, I will try that next time.

masking them is not the same as eliminating them.... Try putting a fan in front of a windo or outside facing door facing out. Now would be a great time to invest in a whole house fan

As much cooking we Hmong people do each day it doesn't help at all.  My fresheners around the house doesn't work either after 2-3 days it just like gone.  Burning up candles for a few hours nothing change.  I'm thinking of stop using my oven and get a turbo one and only use it when I need to bake from time to time with the kids.  I'm sick of cleaning oven too.

If some of you like to fry, buy an electric skillet and fry in the garage or outside instead.

Yep. I never fry foods inside.  Ever.

I also don't eat rice much. Having the rice cooker on a lot also gives your home a funky smell.

But man I'm glad it's warmer out so you can air out the house.

If it's just food odor then i would avoid frying food inside and open ALL windows. The fresh air does really help and freshener.

However if it's not food odor then the carpet and/or floors need to be clean.

I tried this and it worked great! It got rid of unwanted smell (boiled tripe or oil/grease burn) fast.  O0

Awesome!

Also you can boil Vinegar and it will absorb the grease smell as well.

The best and only way is to get rid of the source.

How about getting rid off that musty, mildew smell in the basement?
Air freshner is only temporary.
