Do it yourself demolition.
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:18:45 PM »
I need to tear up my two bedrooms in my lower level

Should I just take a sledge hammer and start swinging.  Or is there a better way to go about it?

i'm keeping it as two bedrooms, but they just need some serious upgrading.

So everything needs to come out, drywall, carpets, insulation, false ceiling, doors, etc...  all the way down to studs and electrical and vents and start fresh.

i'm on the fence about seeking bids and hiring a contractor...

but I feel i'm pretty up to the challenge.  I'm pretty handy in general, and this is my first home.

no...don't start hammering away.  just make sure you know where the important stuff is behind all that drywall, such as any supporting beams.
when i demo my front closet to expand my entryway, i marked where the studs were and worked around those areas carefully.

just take it easy one wall at a time and you should be fine.....also check with your city requirements incase you need a permit, even if you are doing it yourself.  the fines are a bit hefty.

Just be careful and don't take down any supports with your hammer. LOL.

start smashing dry walls will be fine but know your support beams and electric wires are at first.
