Memory flood back.  Thai didn't want us there.  Other countries took us under their wings.  Thanks to USA, France, Germany, Canada, French G.  These countries didn't have to do it, but they chose to take care us.

Sorry to say but it's their mess and it's the least they can do for refugees caused by their imperialistic ambition. Now about the crises down at the border, these people didn't come from from war torn countries but rather are here to seek a better future for themselves economically. There's proper channels to get here but they did not pursue that path. America needs to just treat these people till they are well enough and ship them back to their respective countries. It's the only humane way to deal with this problem. Taking them in will only send out the wrong message to the world that they should snug into the US for a better life.

It has come down to either your children first or other buddy.  We are not the richest nation anymore so stop the b.s. about helping others.  These children used the system to get into this country illegally and we're actually providing, facilities, meals, free flight or bus for them to go home.

Thumbs up!

I understand the parents want a better life for these children but THEY ARE CHILDREN. What the heck are they suppose to do in America to earn their own keep? The parents just expect American families to take them in or what? I highly blame the parents and the USA border patrol for not doing a better job.

People in other parts of the world have got to put more effort in turning their country around and stop relying on the USA.

It's funny how there are people fleeing their own country and then you have groups like the Hmong who can only dream of having their own country.

Most children during the Vietnam war were in similar situation and Thailand and the world has done the same. Nothing is new, except this is U.S border. And in any other borders around the world, people, including children have also fled their land seeking help in many circumstances. Had the world turn these people down, some of us would have never seen the U.S.

We came here not because they just took us under their wings buddy.  The countries that took us in were all involved with the Vietnam War.  Did you see a flux of Thais, Philippines came over since the refugee camps were based there?  Go study more about the Vietnam War and you will get a better understanding why we're here today.

Exactly, the bottom line is human have a heart and the world care. They could have easily bury you. The world will not know your existence. But you are here. Don't worry too much about the history. If human does not care you would have not made it here. The topic here is the well being of the children. We were once in need of the people's help, we were once being fed and clothes through the food bank, tax payers money. We are no different than these children.

O0  Some of us went through and we knew how it felt to be in a country that didn't want us to be there.  They held our people at the border of Thailand for months before they could enter Thailand.  Many were forced to go back.  Some were accused as spy and executed.  Food, shelter, clothes and security were provided by many countries.  Some of us don't have to read history.  We lived through that period of time.  We knew how it felt to be hungry, fear every moment that we might had to sent back to Laos and the Thai people protested for us not to be in their country.  Instead of this and that, we all should just stand at the side line and watch.  Just wish and hope that something good will happen to them like happen to us.

Yes. And some of our family were not so lucky at the hands of the Thai people as well. Some of our family were forced to go back and got sent to camp and tortured too. Some of my relatives and cousins loss their parents to communist and their kids are here in the states through some of our families taking them in. Thank the heaven to the U.N. for allowing these parentless children to remain in camp.

We lived through that period of time and we know it's not easy.  One night, there were some Thai soldiers passed our house.  Later, saw them handcuff some men and took the men with them.  About 1 hour later, heard gunshots.  Those men were never seen again.  I remembered the families were waiting for them for months to years, see if their fathers were going to come back.  Have compassion for people that don't have what you have.  Love them.  Pray that there is way for them.

You are way out in left field on this topic buddy.  It wasn't their heart that accepted us rather their guilt of the Vietnam War involvement.  Most of the people say they love kids but that's a false ad, they only love their own kids.  These illegal kids are staying at these facilities for court  hearings at the expense of tax payers.  Some are with their relatives awaiting their hearings which could be up to a year and many never showed up.   Since October of 2013 the illegal kids population has gone up increasingly from 210,000-500,000!!!  Tax dollars 4 billions which Obama asked for spent on judges, lawyers, etc....would be better off for poor American kids.

Go check the list of countries we sent aids to every year and you'll see how much compassion we have for other countries.

That's the problem! Instead of giving a man a fish, should have taught a man to fish instead...

Strange how that ideology is different from liberal and conservative isn't it?  Liberals gives while Conservatives trains and teach.

Hear me out guys.  Supposedly their native countries are riddled with crime and political turmoil or whatever and no humane person would want to send them back, right?  Also if we keep them here chances are they'll get thrown into some small area that is ran by a government project which will only perpetuate the economic depression and all ramifications thereof that we already have going on.

What if we take the Final Fantasy 8 approach to this whole thing?  Create strictly disciplined military academies that focus on STEM fields to counterbalance countries like China or India that graduated by far more engineers, scientists, and mathematicians that we do?  Also, we'd be perfectly prepped in the event that a sorceress from another dimension, where all space-time have been compressed, attacks us.

I honestly have no idea how we're going to fund this (maybe reallocating funds from the bloated military budget); just saiyan'.

Great reporting, Katie Couric!

I feel for these children. It reminds me of camp days. So many kids without their parents.

Immigration has always been a contentious issue in the United States. But the current crisis reached a boiling point last week in Murrieta, California, when angry protesters successfully turned away three buses of undocumented immigrants being taken to a border patrol post there.

The residents were upset because they don’t want their tax dollars supporting the recent wave of undocumented minors who have been streaming across the border. Over the last nine months, more than 52,000 unaccompanied children have entered the U.S. illegally, and they’re burdening an already burdened system.

Most of these children are coming from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, and some of the children making the dangerous journey have been toddlers.

Border patrol stations are backed up, so thousands of kids are being sent to detention centers on military bases. Even a warehouse in Arizona has been converted into a holding facility.

So why are they coming? And why aren’t they being turned away immediately? No matter where you stand on the immigration issue or this current crisis, hopefully after watching this you’ll be able to say, ‘Now I Get It

The best solution is to send the children back. There isn't enough families in the US to sponsor such children and especially a group of siblings. Even if there were willing families they would still demand government subsidies to afford the cost of raising children.
