Ultraman 2016
« on: December 09, 2015, 09:34:06 AM »
I'm posting from my phone so I'm not sure if the embed feature is working.  A new Ultraman movie is coming and it looks pretty good.  Any other Kaiju Super Power Ranger Pacific Rim Gigantor Voltron Getta Robo fans looking forward to giant battles?  The live action AoT had moments but then it got lazy.  I've always loved Ultraman (early) and this looks like a proper kaiju movie.

Think someone posted this in another thread.

Looks purely cgi. His proportion looks so off. Just doesn't look right.
Not saying he's human, cause clearly he's not.  But his body shape is odd, he's like some flimsy giant rather than the usual one we always see.

Not digging the cgi looks.  Just isn't tokusatsu to me. :/

I am looking forward to seeing the next Super Sentai though.  :D

I thought I'd never like CGI in daikaiju films but I really enjoyed Pacific Rim.  Big City battles actually could be done well.  My only gripe with Pacific Rim was that they're giant robots so the action isn't as fluid as giant suit actors.  I get it, there are limitations, it works and I still enjoy it.

I grew up watching Ultraman so I'm hoping to see a proper movie treatment regardless if it isn't tokusatsu enough for me or not.  I just like entertaining films in general and to see the original Ultraman back is good news for me.  My daughter was wondering who Ultraman was so I'm hoping to get them started as well; they already love Power Rangers so they 'get it.'

Takes alot of imagination to enjoy the recent power rangers.  :D  (Dino charge isn't so bad, but the 2 before it, ugh..).
You should introduce them to Kamen Rider.  I love how it can be a lighthearted kid series and then it can also be quite dark (Kamen rider: the first) meanwhile still maintaining the spirit of the series.

I like their henshin and roll calls.  Especially the final henshin of the sentais since it's usually with their mask off.

I remember watching PR the first with my cousins.  I was too old for it and didn't dig it as much.  I mean look what we grew up with?  PR compared to Godzilla, Ultraman, Voltron, etc was better but kids love PR.  I really can't stomach anything but the original and Samurai.  The Megaforce is ehhh.  Cool that they can morph into past Rangers but it's all terrible CGI and much too serious.

I use to watch Kamen Rider back when Hmong people called him Ant Man.  Still love the original series.

It's supposed to be cheesy fun sadly those two series didn't carry that tone.  I like the overall Idea that you can take a random group of ragtag people and teach them how to build teamwork and conquer anything.
Have you given Dinocharge a try?  It's not so bad.  It's trying to gain the cheesy and fun factors again.

I think the problem with samurai and megaforce is the acting.  Unlike before where they used people who had actual martial arts backgrounds and can play their role.  These guys are nothing more than just models with bland acting skills. not to mention terrible writing.   The best actor in samurai other than Bulk was easily Lauren and she was barely there.
- mentor ji was a ****.  pointless character. Lets not even get into the story for samurai, it made little sense.
- gosei was even worse...  there is an explanation for why you are no longer the black ranger. but i'll tell you later.  (umm okay?)

Megaforce could have been great, but it fell flat because. well...  the writing is terrible.  There was no theme.
Anyone who took a look at the outfits and zords can easily see a pirate motif.  Which is what Gokaiger was about.  Gokaiger had a pretty weak storyline too.  They focused way too much on cameos, that the general story is "A group of space pirates searching for the world's greatest treasure" They begin as pirates who don't care about others, and grow to become "heroes."   And that's it.  But they used the ranger keys well especially in the part where they fought against all the extra rangers (6 rangers).

It's kind of sad, when a random fan can splice footage from gokaiger with sound footage from megaforce and produce something far more interesting than megaforce.

Should check out.
Super Hero Taisen - story is a bit weak, but who cares..  Rangers team up with the Kamen Riders.
Super Hero Taisen Z - story is a bit better, Rangers team up with Kamen Riders and the Space Sheriffs from the Metal Heroes (they were called Beetleborgs and VR Troopers here in America).

Sorry to drop the bomb but Godzilla will troll and kill Ultraman's ass. Even Gamera lost to Godzilla in a fight yo. King Kong was beaten 4 times before winning Godzilla in the end.
