Is anyone as intrigued by the Periodic Table of Elements?
« on: November 30, 2016, 03:19:03 PM »
I love that thing!  I didn't pay too much attention to it in high school and college but I remember I did like it.  If there's one thing I'd go back to really grasp, it would be to fully take in everything from that table. I'm relearning it on my own now, but how fun it would have been to learn it as a young kid.

that table was all I needed on a few chemistry exams.  It is like how we used to input formulas into our ti85 calulators.  The answers are literally right there.

Then I lost hope because that table stopped growing while I did.

The stories behind them elements and her discoveries and who it was named after was cool.   That table was incomplete but still is a crowd pleaser.

I like going deep with that stuff.  Not just learning it and then be done.  I'm intrigued by what the elements are capable of and I do a lot of "what if's" with those elements.  There's endless possibilities.

For instance, Cobalt (Co) - a transition metal.

From wiki: Cobalt is a chemical element with symbol Co and atomic number 27. Like nickel, cobalt is found in the Earth's crust only in chemically combined form, save for small deposits found in alloys of natural meteoric iron.

Isn't that beautiful?  Just the short definition of it already makes it so awesome.

I'm more interested in creating combustion from non gaseous elements.  We are going to implement that ideas into the future of our automobile industry.

garbage powered cars
compressed vapors

self replicating source of energy where the energy itself will recycle itself.  Shhh, I'm with *****   :2funny:

Cool. That's interesting.

Right now I am deeply in love with Palladium...or just metals.  I will get to gases later.  Like I said, the periodic table is intriguing.  There is so much to learn from it...it's endless.

Always liked science, like you, I didn't pay much attention in class and have lots of regrets. As for relearning it, you can only grasp the theories but to really understand how chemicals react and bond to each other to make a new compounds, you need to practice in a lab. With no chemicals and lab to practice in, one can only be intrigued.

I love theory though because theories can be challenged and changes all the time.  I think that's why I am more science minded than concrete (like most religions).  I don't want to personally test something.  I want someone else to do the lab work and I want to be on the other end to read about it.  ;D

You still couldn't put me in a lab if you tried.  There is something about labs that freak me out.

I was always interested in the different experiments we did.

the time we distilled water.
the time we tested ph levels.

And the one i found really cool, i think we dropped magnesium in some liquid (maybe acid?) and it just melted.

These days i'm more interested in learning the laws of thermodynamics .  But i can't for the life of me understand entropy. The word just flies right past me.

I know nothing about thermodynamics .  When I have time, I'll look into it.

I'm glad we have so many curious and inquiring minds.

I still have a hard time identifying dependent and independent variables. :(

I get science language and programming language mixed up all the time. Anything with the word variables and I cannot decipher whether it's science or math.
