Enhanced Driver's License or Enhanced Identification Card
« on: April 07, 2017, 09:48:16 AM »
MN has until 2018 to adopt/comply with the federal Real ID requirements.  Do you have one?  How easy or hard was it to apply for one?  What are your opinions on these types of IDs?

Difference of about 1-2 weeks longer for the entire process? This was all according to an older sibling who is waiting for their new ID. Don't quote me on it though.

I was just curious on people's thoughts and the process of getting an EDL or EIC.  MN residents will have to get one of these soon, unless it gets delayed again.  I can see the advantages of having one but I also see the disadvantages.

I'd get one just because I want to travel outside of MN. I understand having a Passport & ID is the alternative but 1 form is easier to manage than 2. It'd also be less expensive in the end.

I agree that it would be easier and cost-effective to have the enhanced one BUT if an individual doesn't have all the required documents, then it might cost more for the replacements.  In the end, we'll all need to switch, so might as well do it now than later.  Again, there are advantages and disadvantages but I do feel like this is just another way of the government tracking people.

Please don't remind me. I'm so not looking to getting a new ID.

For those who have love ones outside of your state should get one.

Not sure what the requirements are for MN, but where I live, I just had to bring my license, birth certificate, SS#, and a form that I printed off the DMV website. It was very easy. And luckily I went in the morning right when the DMV opened so the entire process took about 15 minutes. I got my Real ID about a week later in the mail.

The picture though..... sigh. They never turn out right.  ;D

Thanks, Asharia.  MN residents have to bring a few forms/documents for proof of identity/residency too.  I'm planning on getting an EDL sometime this year.  I concur about the pictures.  Ugh.   ;D

It seems as though Minnesotans will eventually need two IDs.  Otherwise, they may not be able to enter/travel to certain areas.   :-\

Cali stats shows that not many people are lining up to get a real ID.

I think we got till 2020.

The law will be implemented so why not get one now when the line is shorter?

They say they want to see my birth certificate.  I'm like I'm a product of the refugee.  All the docs are lost with the war.  Here is my citizenship status docs so take it or leave it.  If I don't get my real ID by then, I'm driving to MN n not fly.  I wonder if boarder patrol will allow me in without it?  I don't remember seeing any MN boarder patrol either.

Get real ID n get things out of the way.  I'm legit but the system wants me to be more legit.  If this has anything to do with weeding out the immigrants then I'm all for it.  About time America and Americans do a real head count to get a real score.
