Very sad to hear that a young lady could just simply lose her life. This case is very suspicious & could use a thorough investigation.

From the article:

"...Xiong had been drinking, came home late and got into an argument with her mother about 12:35 a.m. July 28.

“She took off running,” he said.

She called her boyfriend on her cellphone. He told detectives that he could hear that she was out of breath from running and he could hear what sounded like feet walking on gravel. She was probably using the speakerphone, Dyer said.

But she would not tell him where she was. She uttered an expletive and a scream, and the call ended abruptly."

Sounds very much like how the investigators have put it all together. Got drunk, argued with mother, ran off, and fell into canal (because she was drunk and it was dark at 12:30am). Everything the boyfriend describes matches exactly with that timeline of events.

If there was foul play, she would be screaming to her boyfriend over the phone "HELP HELP SOMEONE'S CHASING ME!" or something of that nature. You wouldn't be playing guessing games with the person on your phone if someone was trying to abduct you. It's tragic, yes. But there's really nothing else to investigate in this case. As much as they don't want to realize that their family member lost their life over something so trivial as getting into an argument, running off and slipping into the canal, it is what it is. The family is obviously very hurt and are looking for another explanation for closure but things like this happen, people lose their life, and that's why it's called a tragedy.

it's an unfortunate incident...it is inappropriate to point fingers when one just lost a child and i'd hate to say it but partial blame would be on the mom.  knowing her daughter had been out drinking and intoxicated, she should have not waged an argument with the daughter.  it is good enough that Lucy made it home in her condition.  we all know that is it pointless to argue with someone in a drunken state of mind.  the mom should have just kept her cool until the next day, things might have been different.  as much as one has concern for their child, parents need to be adults, be more understanding and sane, in most situations...t hey should always take their own advice, "ua siab ntev.."

as for lucy...there isn't much to say...she's an adult, she caused her own demise.

very sad!

Do you think her mom told her to go marry the boyfriend who had been out late with her that night?

I can see it being a tough case for any prosecutor to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she was in fact pushed into the canal by someone else when all they have of any criminal activity are the 12 uses of her credit cards away from the site.

True. I wonder if there's more to it.

'niag tsom tom no...pg mib cab...poj laib, tsis mloog lus kiag li...tsis xav ua neeg nyob ces kav tsis kias mus kom tuag os...'  something like that.

well, we know what happened next.   :)

Yeah.  A mother should never curse her child like that, cuz it will ring true.

Chim no ces "paub li, paub li" lawm xwb lau.
