talk about being youthful... last week...
« on: December 12, 2017, 11:54:36 AM »
as i have mentioned... come january... i'll be playing bball in an all hmong league... the league currently has two locations... the twin-cities and here... the playoffs/championship will feature teams from both locations...

anyway, last thursday we had some frigid temps... at practice, after about my 20th jump shot, i felt a loud pop in my right calf followed by excruciating pain... turns out i have a right calf sprain... with my mom's hmong herbal medicine... i'm ready for practice come this thursday night...

only... i will remember to stretch first before playing... i tell u... age catches up to all of us... lol!

Remember to focus all of your energy on the offense cuz that takes more skills.  With defense, if that other team can not shoot, you will still get your defense of the year award for doing nothing.

Besides, it's street basketball where offense is all you need really.  Just out score the other team to be the first to hit 100.

No one cares about your block shot but we all care about the dangerous hot shooter.

this league is no street ball... we have paid officials... the cost per player is 65 bucks which includes 8 games, playoffs, and a jersey... my thoughts slightly differ... defense regardless of the situation turns into offense...

thanks... at age 38 i can still keep up with the young bucks... only my scoring, defense, and overall comprehension of the game far exceed theirs... lol!

before my injury... this young buck who plays on my team, who the 3 of us played around the world said, "there's no way we're gonna out shoot flint..." lol!

also, after my 9 yr old son's last game this past sat... a teammate of his said to me, "do you play basketball? you shoot the ball very well." i responded, "i play here and there." lol!

I have a confession to make.

When I was was In 10 grade,  I was playing street ball at the local park and a youth coach asked if I wanted to play for his City league.  I said sure but I was over aged.  It's a middle school league 8th grader.  Coach said no problem, let me sign you up with a different name and age.  I played well.  I was Tim harderway or however you spell his name cuz I had a killer cross over when I dribble.  They had 5 different guys on me to slow me down.  I was hanging and did my double pump technical for a lay up and the crowd goes wild.  I took the team there but I had to quit or go to jail.  In the quarter final, an older brother to the opposing team was there.  At high school, he confronted me as to why I play in that league.  I said I don't know what he talking about as I'm a badminton player and never play basketball ever.

We took 3rd at the semi.

Good memories but thinking back, schooling little kids was not my thing.  Scouters n eyes on you if you play too well.

I can still ball but conditioning is bad and I don't even smoke.  Gained 20lbs n I can feel heavier with every hop.

When I say street ball, I mean low scale, no real play book type of a league.

To win yes, defense is golden but in a league like that when playing is for fun, just have fun, just play offense n save your energy for the offense.

Labello ball had 80 or more points by himself during that one game.  No defense at all n look at where he is now.  He's going to play for the litawanian team.  Sorry I know I can't spell.

lol... yeah, balling with underage kids and schooling them because of the unfair advantage is not my thang... on the flip side... i actually loss 22 pounds for this league... i'm stoked to play...

on d-fence, in a 2-3 zone, i play the 3 aka small forward because i'm a defensive specialist at rebounds and stripping the ball... on offense, i play the 1 aka point guard... i have court vision... what can i say...

for sure... i see these young bucks drive as hard and as fast as they can into the hole and miss the lay-up... i take my sweet time, protect the ball with my body aka shoulder roll to deflect the defenders and play at a very manageable speed... and score... lol!

I went through all 15k posts and those 2 quotes I found were the only ones so I guess that would make it "everytime".  Feel free to go through all 15k posts and verify by quoting them all.  You need to quote them all to verifying prove "everytime".   Please verify that Im wrong.

I will give my honest amuatuer streetaller critique.

I'm not a big fan of shooting long 3 pointers  and that style of play...

My type of play is more penetration and driving into the paint and scoring and/or fancy passes while inside.

And so it really shows when I play... I don't have a 3 point shot...I've never developed it(although I did hit three 3 pointers in a row in a really heated game to end the game because the other players were getting at each other so I just wanted to end the game so the game would stop.

I've got an inside the 3 point line shot... for some odd reason if I just step outside of the 3 point line, my shot goes off, but if I'm at least barely inside the 3 point line, I'm decent... and then the rest of my game is like I said... a lot of penetration and driving for scores.

Best advice I can give you is to ball smart.

I see a lot of guys taking a 9 footer jump shot with no one in front of them.  A smart baller would dribble up and go for a 4 footer that gives them a higher percentage of making the shot.

If that don't work, let them smell your arm pit as you go in for a lay up.  In street ball, I hardly see any technical foul or offensive foul.  No free throws so no care about them technical so a shoe to your face cuz I can fly.
