Looking for an old Chinese vampire movie
« on: January 08, 2018, 04:56:53 PM »
I used to watch it as a kid. It has Chinese vampires (the ones who are reanimated and jump around, and they can be controlled with a piece of paper on their forehead. You can hide from them by holding your breath or throwing rice at them).

So I know there are a lot of Chinese vampire movies so let me try to get specific.

It may have been called Chinese Ghost Story. It was made in either the 70s or 80s. The storyline from what I remember is about a vampire who goes rogue and kills a bunch of people. There is a family (or group of people) living in a nice house and they are attacked. Umm in one scene, a young man goes to buy rice to help fend off the vampires, and he gets scammed when the owner distracts him with free rice cakes while directing a worker to give him a different kind of rice (not effective against the vampires). There's also another scene where they're holding their breath to hide and they use an opium pipe to breathe.

The movie is scary but there are funny parts too.

I know this isn't much to go on. I've already searched Google and imdb. Any help would be nice. Thanks!

Darn. I thought I was so clever.. Wikipedia lied!  >:(
Quote
He orders Sang to feed Choi with glutinous rice, claiming it may decrease the vampire's venom in Choi's body and bring him back to his normal state. While shopping for the rice, however, Sang fails to notice that the shady merchant deliberately mixed different kinds of rice in the bag.

But Mr. Vampire does have a lot of subsequent parts so maybe it's one of them. I mean, how many jumping vampires/ghost movies did hong kong make? \_(ツ)_/

Hehe, maybe it's common practice to scam customers in these vampire movies..?

I'm going to go back to my grandma's house and go through all the old VHS tapes to see if I can find it.

OMG. You were right!!!

When you suggested Mr. Vampire, I looked it up on YouTube but I found the newer version, which wasn't the one you were talking about which was the 1985 version. That's why I thought it wasn't the right movie. Well I owe you namvan  :)

I couldn't find the whole movie but I found some clips, plus the song from the movie. I recognized the song immediately.

Thanks for your help. I love this movie.  :D
