The worst rule in the NFL may be going away

The catch rule will be a top discussion this off season, this is a good thing. So many controversial calls that had caused a game for some teams.

The league's competition committee is currently working on adjusting its catch rule to no longer require a player to go to ground to maintain control of the football. It would also prevent the slight movement of the football in a player's hands being called an incompletion upon replay review.

The rule is expected to be finalized Tuesday and brought forward for approval by team owners at the league meeting beginning Sunday.

The new rules defining a catch include:

1. Control of the ball.
2. Two feet down or another body part.
3. A football move such as:
» A third step;
» Reaching/extending for the line-to-gain;
» Or the ability to perform such an act.

The key change to the rule eliminated the "going-to-the-ground" element of the previous rule.
