Its weird but I completely understand what she means. I used to have the biggest crush on a good friend back in high school but in return she only saw me as a good friend so we never dated. Years later I met a girl who I truly cared for but not in the sense that I could see myself dating her. We stayed friend but eventually we drifted our ways. We still say hi and chit chat every now and then whenever we see one another.
