Police: Two gunmen in attack on Hmong leader
« on: April 25, 2018, 10:15:18 AM »
CHIANG RAI: The chief of the Hmong Club in Thailand and his family were ambushed Tuesday. The attackers killed his wife and daughter, while the ethnic leader and his son were gravely wounded. Local authorities were informed of the incident at about 5pm Tuesday. The ambush happened late Tuesday afternoon on the Ban Rom Fa Thong-Ban Pha Tang Road in Ban Rom Fa Thong village in tambon Por of Wiang Kaen district.

Police responding to the emergency found a silver Toyota pickup truck registered in Chiang Rai with licence plate number Phor Khor 4115. There were numerous bullet holes through the windshield, both sides and the rear of the pickup. The driver was identified as Thaweesak Yodmaneebanpho t, 54, kamnan of tambon Por and chairman of the Hmong Club in Thailand.

His passengers were his wife Maiyia Wongnapapaisal, 40, their five-year-old daughter Thanyaporn Yodmaneebanpho t and their three-year-old son Chaimongkol Yodmaneebanpho t. The wife and daughter were both killed at the scene. Mr Thaweesak and his son, severely wounded, were rushed to a local hospital. The ambush took place on a curve of the road that passes through a forested mountainous terrain. Police believe the family were on its way home. No motive for the attack has been determined, but police said they were investigating a possible business conflict.

If you are important then why be seen in public?

These senseless killing needs to stop.  You know how world war one was started right?  Assassination of a high ranking official.  If trump gets ambush while visiting Kim dumb jum, guaranteed world war.

Is the chief of the Hmong club and his family Hmong? If the chief and his family are Hmong then why do they have a Thai first name and last name?  Sometimes, it is hard for me to understand many of the Hmong who live in Thailand these days because it just seems like they are stuck in the middle of everything. They are stuck in two cultures( trying very hard to fit into the Thai culture and getting lost in it and then they are not understanding fully of the Hmong culture or who they really are anymore) they change or wear their Hmong traditional clothes into a whole new different style that looks so different- for example I notice that Hmong men in Thailand wearing very short Hmong traditional shirt so their chest or stomach can be seen. I swear growing up as a Hmong person I have not seen this kind of style of clothing among USA or LAOS Hmong men at all. Many of Hmong in Thailand in my view are just trying too hard to fit into the Thai culture that they get lost in their own world especially into the drug and prostitution world. To the many of Hmong in Thailand please stop selling drugs to make your way up in life because you deserve better then that.

it appears that he and his family are hmong just with thai names.  no difference from a hmong having an american name.  having a name change is often to get notoriety, not necessary being stuck in two cultures, you're still hmong regardless...h owever, assimilating.  speaking of clothing, we didn't know what jeans were until we came to the states, mini skirts...mmmm, and now leggings. if i was a thailander, i'd be pimping myself to milfs and cougars from murica.  it's the only way i know how.  ha! :D ;D

Your not even sure if he and his family are Hmong too and why they have a Thai first and last name...I don't really often run into a Hmong person changing their last name to a different last name unless that person is marry to the other person. Many of the Hmong females do change their last name to their husband's last name but for the Hmong men not too many would change it.

The name change for Hmong not only happen in Thailand but also throughout other countries too, I knew many Hmong folks from other countries who are the same clan going by different first and last name (like the Vang for example):

Lui Wang from China
Keeb Vaj from Laos
Vichai Saewang from Thailand
Duong Vangshu from France
Tao Vah from Australia
Washington Vang from USA
Tawe Va from Vietnam

I dont know anymore...and I'm tired of it....

I know of a Lakeview Xiong (parents named him after the hospital he was born in :D).
I also know of a Hmong person named Kole Silva in the U.S. and a bunch of other Hmong family's who changed their last name to something other than your "Vang, Xiong, Thao, etc..."

As ZDN pointed out, assimilation happens.

I mean, how many Hmong people you know in the U.S. with the name John, David, Tony, Lisa, Linda?  ALOT...
Do you think the Hmong people over in Laos are like, "What the heck, why do they have American names?" ???

Exactly... and also to not be discriminated against... Thai are very racist people.
