Freedom and Innovation
« on: October 26, 2018, 07:14:50 PM »
What did people think when Voltaire starting writing very promiscuous and provocative stories?  The powers at be tried to silence Voltaire.  Did you know without Voltaire's mind, it is unlikely we would have the work of the great enlightenment?  Without Voltaire and his openness to offend the status quote, there would never ever be a democracy.  The very thing LGBTQ, Black, Minorities, and etc... need is freedom of expression.  When freedom of expression is taken away, what's to stop the PC police to subverted by another group like fundamentalist and then the minority will be enslaved again.  Freedom is absolutely necessary to ensure the survival of all expression.  My culture is an expression.  Your desire is an expression.  Your sexual orientation is an expression.  Take that away and what do you have?  You will be regulated by the government.  Who's to stop us from returning back to the system Voltaire grew up in?  A system without freedom of speech?  Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of democracy and America.  In addition, in emergence theory of socialization processes, freedom of speech is the greatest enabler of innovation.  Innovation is what propels our society forward.  It is why we have cars, Internet, etc...  In case you have never heard of Voltaire, he's one of the greatest philosophers of western civilization.

This is what the Left doesn't understand when they scream "hate speech". They don't realize that it will just come back to shut them down.

Libertarians and Conservatives understand this basic principle.

The Left love socialism because they believe if only they can find the right person. This is how they feel about freedom of speech. They always believe that it's a matter of finding the right people in politics.

Libertarians and Conservatives don't buy that nonsense.

No such thing as the right people, ever.

That's why you don't vote away your rights to a government entity and then hope the right person is in power.

This is why I just can't stand socialists - once they get a hold of an ideology (whether it be a conservative or a liberal one) - they demand total control of the people.

I think one of the biggest problem that people have when it comes to free speech is that, they can throw punches but can't take punches.

Man cannot live on reason alone.  Freedom of speech often comes from the heart and less of the mind.  Voltaire was a lover first and a thinker later.  ;)  If innovation was so easy with the mind, there would be more innovation...  Reason is merely one modality in which we understand and comprehend the human experience.

Freedom of Speech exists solely for the purpose of protecting what some deem as hate speech.

Hate speech is subjective, depending on who is feeling offended.

I disagree with your implications about Free Speech.

Yes, at one time groups like LGBTQ, blacks, and other minorities were perceived as marginalized groups so it was important to uphold free speech for all. However, the times have changed y'all. This is the 21st century. If you still feel like a victim then it's your own twisted perception. Nobody is stopping you but you - which is a topic I'll post at some other time.

Unlike many leftist minorities, I refuse to hold victim status for life. For one thing, if our card in life is to be a forever victim then why fight at all?

When you tell someone or a group that they are always the victim then there is no incentive to even fight because you've already told them that their status will never change. There is no reason for them to do better.
