Nowadays, the opportunity to enjoy meat is just not that appealing anymore. We have an abundance and access to more meat than we can ever eat. It's just not something we would drop other commitments for anymore.

the love, respect, and help, that we show to our elder, relatives, family, etc...

and there's no one to work on the pig/cow/chicken etc..
i ask myself, where are the son and daughter??

a typical hmong funeral usually have 4-5 cow butcher (easily)

reasons why they don't attend such event.

1.  they're busy
2.  they don't know the host well even if they do get an invite
3.  they simply don't care to go
4.  they don't like to be social
5.  they're not hungry as you stated "there're plenty of food".  they got plenty of food at home too
6.  they don't go because someone that they dislike is also going
7.  scare of food poisoning
8.  against their religion to go.  ex. shaman going to church event and church going to shaman
9.  they didn't get an invite

Thats a good point! Most people around my age are too overwhelm with family traditions and do not know how to go about it. Most are lost in the cultural identity crisis and aren't taught on how to deal with it. And also, they choose buffets over family events.. lol..jk..
