Was there couple of months ago and this was the exact road I took to get to Idyllwild and Mt. San Jacinto Park:

heard about this it, sucks to whoever lives in the middle because i heard the entry and exit are closed due to maintenance no one cant leave the mountains  :o

Agree, one way in, one way out...That's the thing with the more isolated areas..It's natural beauty hasn't been abused as much as the metro areas but not many detour...remin d me of one of my favorite spots (Big Sur) when the mudslide hit a couple of years ago..
